What software which you guys used to monitor the ATI card temperature and also fan speed?

Rivatuner. It doesn't fully support Catalyst 7.12 or 8.1 though.

I read a lot regarding this debate... most would ask, gamer will only focus and concentrate on the mission and objective rather than looking at how nice is that fence could be rendered. I strictly object about this statement. I, myself as a gamer I enjoy not only the story, the gameplay but definitely the design and beauty of the graphic as well. Programmers, designers and developers spend a lot of time and money in making everything better especially the sharpness of the graphic. I usually would just take my sweet time to explore the whole game including appreciating the tiny details which they done over. Bravo ~

after i try hd3870 i really can not tahan the IQ form Nvidia . even the low end games like counter strike : source .

I would say depends on game, some games dun utilize xfire that much thus the tiny increment in performance so 16x/4x and 16x/16x doesn't differ much.

Most I saw also 16x/4x and 16x/16x different around 15 fps, and it depends on the resolution you play also. Crossfire got better advantage with higher resolution.

The question for me now is, would the 9600GT be any better than the 3870? Is it even better than my current 8800GTS?

stick with your 8800gts.
neither card will give you much improvement in gaming.
