WCE update:

It is completed up to Beruas. The section from Terong to Beruas is still the old road, and in bad shape around Beruas.

Also section 6 (Kapar/Bukit Raja North - Assam Jawa) by next March.

Section 7 (Assam Jawa - Tg Karang) would be much later by year 2025. 😞

- Sections 1, 2, 6 and 11 to be completed by March 2024.
- Sections 3, 4 and 7 to be completed by 2025.

- Section 5, already completed and open to traffic. Also the sections from Beruas to Lekir and Teluk Intan to Sabak Bernam (Hutan Melintang).

The non toll sections, route 5, from Lekir to Teluk Intan and from Sabak Bernam to Tg. Karang are already upgraded by JKR.

It will be a much smoother and faster journey as the highway bypass the populated places and towns between Kapar and Tg Karang. It will completely bypass Kuala Selangor.

That 2 non toll sections are already the best alignments and have 2 big bridges crossing the Bernam river and Perak river. Just need to upgrade them to benefit the local residents living there too, namely Sekinchan, Sg Besar and Sabak Bernam.

People living in places between Kapar and Kuala Selangor will benefit too as the highway will lessen the traffic flow, especially during holidays.

Once the sections from Klang to Banting are completed, getting to the seaside recreational areas from Morib to Tg Sepat will be a cinch.

Klang to Morib is about 50km and would take more about 1.5 hours currently. The worse section is going through south klang and bukit tinggi.

People in north klang, setia alam and shah alam could be at morib in less than an hour, anytime... day or night. A lifestyle change.

(I have been to morib several times recently. There are new facilities... flood lights and 24 hours changing/shower rooms... lots of people setting up tents and camping there overnight.)

Yeah, the section from Tg Karang to Setiawan is completed. (Can get to Kuala Selangor on Latar highway.)

I'm using this route too when heading north, going to Kuala Kangsar first. After the bridge junction to Bagan Datuk, there's a traffic light T-junction. Turn right and head towards Parit.

Then use Plus highway or old road from Kuala Kangsar (KK to perakians) to Taiping.

Total toll: RM2.90

---+---+---

Note: From Beruas to KK, there's the old winding road. Equally as bad as the old road from Beruas to Taiping, except that it's shorter and nearer to KK.

It's only until Taiping. Don't worry.

That Sanusi ada sembang kencang want kulim airport and highway from kulim to Taiping. He think it's easy to do land acquisition for highway from kulim to Taiping or Ipoh for that matter. WCE has been planned since early 2000. I was 2" at that time now my eldest entered uni already still not yet completed.

Just imagine if this old trunk road is still single lane and with traffic lights at many places. smile.gif

Those days, I would rather divert 5-6 km to the back road going along the water canal, after Tg Karang and rejoin the road somewhere after Sg Besar.

Ya, when I came back from Sekinchan, Waze guided me to use the back road.

But, still, I hope there is a better road from Tg Karang to Sabak Bernam...

Can see the faint line of the highway heading to Banting, red arrow.

The blue arrow shows where SKVE (E26) is. WCE has an exit connecting to SKVE. And you can enter ELITE highway at Saujana Putra.

If you're on Elite coming from the south (from Seremban or KLIA), you will often find that traffic is bumper to bumper starting right after the KLIA exit/entrance.

It would be good if there's a new exit out of Elite and joining to route 31. (Orange arrow indicating the spot.) And route 31 be widen and upgraded as it leads to WCE.

New stretch of West Coast Expressway opening, toll-free until Jan 2, 2024

KUALA SELANGOR: The West Coast Expressway (WCE) stretch from the Bandar Bukit Raja Utara to Assam Java elevated junction will open to motorists at midnight Tuesday (Nov 21).

Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said there would be no toll charged from midnight Tuesday until 11.59pm on Jan 2, 2024 to those entering the 21.8km-long Route 6 from Bandar Bukit Raja Utara to Assam Java toll plazas and vice-versa.

"Users entering WCE from Section 5, which is from Bandar Bukit Raja Selatan toll to the Assam Java toll plaza or vice-versa, will be charged the existing toll rate according to vehicle class," he said after officiating the opening of the stretch here on Monday (Nov 20).

Nanta said the new stretch will reduce travel time from Kapar in Klang to Assam Java in Ijok, taking only 15 minutes compared to the previous 45 minutes via the existing route.

"The opening of Section 6 will also have a positive impact on local tourism. There will be easier access to interesting destinations like the Batu Arang Heritage Township, Bukit Malawati, Sky Mirror, and Kampung Kuantan Firefly Park for example," he said.

Nanta added that the new route could create new opportunities for local businesses as well as stimulate the socio-economic growth of the community.

Four sections of the West Coast Expressway were previously opened in 2019, involving three sections in Perak, namely Section 8 (Hutan Melintang-Teluk Intan), Section 9 (Lekir-Changkat Chermin) and Section 10 (Changkat Chermin-Beruas), as well as Section 5 (Bandar Bukit Raja Selatan-Bandar Bukit Raja Utara) in Selangor. – Bernama

So, good news... Section 6 is completed way ahead of previous announcement and opening after midnight TOMORROW. 👍

edit: opening from "midnight Tuesday".

Progress of the sections in Selangor as at last month, October.

With section 6 opened yesterday, Klang-Kuala Selangor is a fast 25 minutes drive. Bkt Raja toll (at Jln Meru) to Asam Jaya toll, about 15 minutes, and another 10 minutes to Kuala Selangor.

Actually section 4 has been opened months ago. Going south, you can exit WCE after the 60 cents toll and go either to federal highway or to NKVE.

With section 6 opened, it's sayonara to Kapar and Jeram.

Would be nice if section 7 is fast track. (Section 7 bypass Kuala Selangor.)

Then it would be hello Lumut on weekends...

No further changes since previous update and opening of section 6 (Kapar-Asam Jawa).

Notes:
- the Asam Jawa exit/junction is about midway btw Kuala Selangor and Ijok. (Nearer to Ijok.)

- exiting here, the traffic junction at the Ijok-Kuala Selangor road is not yet completed. If going to Kuala Selangor, you'll need to turn left towards Ijok before making a U-turn to head to Kuala Selangor.

- likewise if getting into WCE from Ijok. Due to the roadworks still in progress, you cannot turn right. You will need to drive further up towards Kuala Selangor and bypassing the traffic light junction before making a U-turn back to enter WCE.

---+---+---+---
Update: The above traffic light junction was opened a few months ago. Can now enter/exit directly at the junction without making U-turns.

To be clear, the WCE is a combination of non-toll sections and toll sections. The non-toll sections are from Tg. Karang to Sabak Bernam and from a T-junction nearby Teluk Intan to Lekir, Sitiawan.

At Lekir, the road splits to two; old trunk road heading into Sitiawan (and Lumut), the other heading into the new toll road bypassing Sitiawan.

From Lekir to Beruas, it's a smooth highway alike PLUS highway.

The section from Beruas to Changkat Jering (Taiping) is not open yet. And Beruas to Changkat Jering is hilly and winding and narrow and nothing much interesting.

So an alternative route is going into Sitiawan and use the old trunk road and passing through Pantai Remis.

The photo in above post was at Teluk Senangin, just a few km off route 60 from Sitiawan/Lumut to Pantai Remis.

Take route A101 after Pantai Remis, it will rejoin route 60 at Terong.

Alternatively if not going into Siitiawan, enter WCE at Lekir and exit at Sitiawan Utara exit, which is close to Ayer Tawar. Right after Ayer Tawar, there's a turnoff to Pantai Remis, route A12.

The toll section from Sabak Bernam to Hutan Melintang/Teluk Intan. After the toll plaza, it exits about midway btw hutan Melintang and tk Intan. If you stay on the road, it goes straight to Sitiawan.

If interested to visit Teluk Intan, it's about 15 minutes away from this exit.

Another detour is going into Bagan Datuk. On the road to Sitiawan, you can spot a new bridge on your left. After the bridge is a 8km elevated highway. Another 2km further is Bagan Datuk.

An interesting place nearby Bagan Datuk is Sungai Burung, a tiny fishing village catering to visitors.

Sounds pretty complicated with in and out of trunk to highway roads. Will stick with trunk roads all the way then. Always love road trips passing through old kampungs and fishing villages. When coming back, will take the plus highway

Resistance from landowners, either price cannot match or some outright refused to sell. Some more majority involved Malay reserved lands, and lands with multiple owners due to their faraid distribution and unfinished / ongoing lawsuits etc....

National land code can easily be used to buldoze over nons land ownership but when it comes to malay-owned lands, it's not easy. This is Msia.
