It's from official Oz immigration statistics. 75% got called for further documents .

Compared to the average of 1% worldwide (refers to the ETA programme, which means generally low risks countries for visa overstay.)

I got instant approval in January.

No luck to hit the 25% chance and experience instant approval sad.gif second time applying for 601 and both times also were also requested to submit documents. Maybe because I have an ongoing/pending subclass 190 hence cannot instant-approve sweat.gif

The previous 601 expired dy after having fund times there so planning to do another trip end of the year innocent.gif

Hmm… doesn’t make sense. You’ve submitted all your documents for the 190, and I’m sure that includes police checks etc… if anything, immigration should look upon this favourably since all the documents are there for their perusal!

Thanks! If all goes well I'll be going to Sydney.

Tho the property crisis and difficulty in securing jobs without local experience is definitely scaring me tho, especially since things are already pretty well established back here sweat.gif

I think they have an algorithm to pick out any applicants that holds malaysian passport and belong to certain age groups for further checking.

currently working in SG, assumed it was auto approval too, but nope, still received the request to submit further info almost immediately after my 601 submission.

Like you, i have a similar long term visa(albeit its the 491) lodged and sitting in their system. That itself should prove to them there is no incentive to overstay. Not sure why their system do not do any cross checks in the database.

Anyway, received my 601 grant couple days later after dumping the docs to them.

Hey… another one! Good luck with the application! May I know which part of Australia will you be? We should keep a little informal dossier of Malaysians retiring or moving to Australia and if we’re near enough, we can come out for meet ups and revive the original spirit of the kopitiam forum before the trolls and the cybertroopers took over….

Yeah I think the age group definitely didn't help, considering how many Malaysians of similar age group overstayed their tourist visa sweat.gif

And nice! Hope you'll be getting the 491 grant soon, the processing time have been going upwards like crazy the last year. sweat.gif

I guess no news is good news. ... if they rejected you, they'd ask for more info.

Could you check the latest status in their app?
Usually if its approved, they'll email you within a couple of days. If they require more info, you'll also be informed via email quite instantly. I last applied in July 2023 and got the email to submit extra info instantly after applying. ETA was approved ~5 days after submitting all the docs. Maybe processing time is much longer now.

And I second the age group algorithm that picks who is required to submit extra info. My family has applied in 2022 and 2023, both times parents (in their 70s) instantly approved while my brother and I (20-30s) instantly received email for further info to be submitted.
