Anyone ordered and collected Tesla from outside KV? How was your experience? My dad thinking of Model Y but neither of us knows about the buying process since a lot need to DIY. He's going to pay cash so no need to worry about loan application.

Is it first trip to test drive and book, then second trip to actually collect the car? What about the JPJ registration process that should happen before pick-up?

If u not looking to test drive , u can just book online.. else yes u will have to make 2 trips

Then u need to download the tesla app, a VIN number will be issued to you.

Follow the steps on the app and upload docs necessary

U need to bid on ebid jpj for new plate number.. if transfer number from existing car , u need to go jpj yourself ( or get a runner to do it )

Get quote from insurance.. tesla will recommend liberty and etiqa

Then fwd the insurance cover note and jpj letter to tesla , they will register for you once the car arrives

They will call/email once car arrives to set delivery date.. then u make the final payment

If you want to test drive, it needs to be booked online. Do not go straight to Cyberjaya. After that, all ordering thru their website. Then, download Tesla App, and follow the instruction, submit the required document thru the app. At the same time, a Delivery Advisor will be assigned to you. You can ask him about anything on your order.

JPJ registration needs to be done before pick-up. It depends on your situation.
If random pick number, tesla will do the job. No action from your side.
For me, I want to pick my own number, so I need to go to mysikap and buy the car plate number first. Then submit the documentation thru Tesla App.
After that, Tesla will help you do the remaining process.

For those transfer car plate, you can go to this site and have a look.

The last trip to Cyberjaya is for your car collection. So basically, you just need to go to Cyberjaya for 2 times. Once test drive (if you needed), and another one is for the car delivery.

Best if you can connect with a Tesla Advisor to test drive the vehicle, then they will assist with all your inquires. You can reach out to me if you want.

Putting aside RV.... just wanted to ask whether anyone here took 9y loan for TM3 or TMY? Not judging or anything, because I personally would prefer just 5 - 7y loan for a car. But for Tesla it got me thinking the other day since it supports OTA update, and Tesla updates are sometimes known to make major improvements in features and efficiency, I was wondering if it makes more sense to have a 9y loan on it compared to traditional ICE. Also there's no regular maintainence unlike ICE

The only worry for me is if there's a major breakthrough in EV tech within the next 5 - 9y that would make all current EVs obsolete

Also what is the average life span of the tyres? I heard EV tyres wear out faster due to the weight and torque?

Battery Warranty only 8 years. I don't recommend take 9y loan.

Sure, the lifespan of Tesla tires in kilometers typically ranges from **40,000 to 80,000 km**. Remember, this can vary based on driving habits, road conditions, and how well the tires are maintained. It's also good practice to replace tires every **six years**, even if the kilometer threshold hasn't been reached. Would you like to know about tire care or other related topics?

Good point. So are you of opinion that EVs are generally best used and dumped before the warranty end?

imho... current batteries should last the life of the car...

car makers need to adopt solid state batteries en masse for economy of scale for prices to be cheap... otherwise it would just be niche product...

New battery technology such as solid state (true solid state is still a long way for mass market) or LFMP battery won't make the current EV obsolete.

Just the same way current EV uses NMC and LFP, they will co-exist. In fact, 1st gen Nissan Leaf owner has upgraded the old battery to the new chemistery and even added to the car's original range. Making it more useful. So any new battery will eventually find a way of being used for older EV.

As long as they use electricity, need charging, use the standard charging protocols, managed by the car's BMS. The current EV arcitecture is solid and I don't see the current EV tech being obsolete.

Thanks for your inputs. So lets say I put aside the concern about the tech being obsolete

Now all that's left is the warranty. Though I see this to be a rare case? So far any TM3 or TMY reported needing a warranty claim for the batteries in Msia? Also if lets say its nearing the 8 year mark, I can always request for a battery change depending on the wear level and terms, thus extending the car lifespan for further 7 years+ right? By that time battery cost should reduced a lot

you cannot simply request new battery lah bro... hahaha

abnormal degradation then only can claim...

example... lfp's 3000 charge cycle == 57 years if you charge 0-100% once a week... id probably expire first before battery to put this in perspective... wink.gif

in a few years i would also expect more battery service centers to open shop...
