Hi Guys

Sorry i am kinda outdated.
Just saw the EEEPC by asus today. fell in love with it because my current lappy going to RIP soon.

My queation is:
1) How many version of EEEPC in the market? Is it all standard 4G Flash ram, upgradable graphic and standard SODIM Ram support?

2) I am no linux user but i find it facinating today. However the pc is for work and mostly my work are in windows especially the exel and the words. Can i use my previous work in this linux base format?

3) the answer for question 2 is a "No", Will Installing the XP affect the speed of the EEEPC?

4) This guy in lowyat said he will trow in a 1G ram for me and a special price purchase of a portable DVD writer for only RM300 if i buy the laptop. Linux base is 1399, xp is 1499. Is it a good buy?

5) If not then any recommendation?

Thank you all... i have not bought the PC yet, considering now.. need to get information before purchasing the lappy.

Eeeuser forum already got that mod. But the problem is that you still need to go through the usb bus and you need a IDE to USB converter for that.
Then there's the extra heat and power consumption.

Better just to do the internal USB hub mod and whack in 2x 32GB thumbdrives. I think can even fit in 3. Hehehehe...

Hi sniper on the roof

can i know what mod is that? Is it expending the so call HDD space? sorry for noob question.

hi jeromeccm

I think that RM1499 is same shop with me...

I bought from them as well 1499 free 1 GB ram + XP + microsoft office + anti virus

u look for Mr.Moon he is very good seller.

now I am happy user and my EEE work very well.

hope u can join our happy family.

thanks bro.. I have decided to get it. Maybe around this week. i think i am going to stick with linux first... then i change to xp. Do you think it is worth to buy the portable DVD writer for RM300? They said if i buy the EEEPC from them they can give me a special price which is 300 for the external drive.

by the way, are you planning to modify the internal "HDD" space or you just use an external HDD?

guy.. kinda confuse here...

I saw many saying about the eeePC900.. They said it is going to launch soon.
Price should be around 1.8k+

Anybody know when is it going to launch? If this month might as well i wait for it to launch first instead of buying the 701 series....

thanks..

wow... this is indeed BREAKING NEWS!!! drool.gif but the price is abit steep la... what proc is it running ? very eager to noe...!

Hi guys.. just got my self a eeepc today in lowyat.
nice...
Reason why i didnt wait because of the estimated cost for eeepc will be roughly about 1.8k to 1.9k.
I think i stick to this eeepc701 because of the $$$. safe cost yet nice..
Just upgraded to 1G Ram, SDHC 8G, and 160G ext HDD, I think more thn enough for me to use for work...

hmmm.. the fun starts now... more tweaking and playing with this toy...

guy... noob here..
just checking a few things..

anybody really successfully tried XPlite without error message popping out? I am noob in wondows so alteration with the files might be a bad idea. Especially one file missing, alert message keep on appearing..

another thing about the open office. Can anybody tell me the difference between open office and Microsoft office 97 in terms of usage and space? are they compatible especially spreadsheet macro, auto calculations and formulars.......

to be frank i am thinking of going for XPlite but not daring yet...
My aim is to reduce space usage.

thank you....

thank bro for the info,..

I am currently using XP pro sp2, Office 97, drivers for eeepc. my SSD 4G left 480MB. so i am considering to lower down the space consumption. I dont use linux because of the software compatibility, although the interface is nice and neat.

I did half way tried the Nlite software but no confident because some of the software need personal preference which i am not too familiar with the windows. you know la.. dummy like me just full install the whole XP everything to prevent from the errors to pop up. So i was asking if anybody had done the nlite and confirm no issue, can share their ideas and opinion.

normally i dont bring the 2.5" out unless necessary... My SDHC 8G/16G is more than enough for the usage...

thanks again...

jeromeccm = no lah... im searching for second hand 701, 900 is way overbudget for me.. i already have a PC and looking for a cheap laptop for surfing and work purpose..

pangping1510 = as far as i know there is no 701 2gb here in Malaysia.. the cheapest and lowest spec for eeepc is 701 4gb surf linux.. rm1199 from the trade zone..

you could wait for the 900 version to hit malaysia and hope that the price for 701 will come down..

or you could get a second hand eeepc when 900 comes out cause by that time im sure a lot of people is selling their 701 to upgrade to 900
*
i think getting a used laptop is not worth la.... i used before... hell alot of problem when time comes.... dont like it... thats why i choose eeepc... less than 1.4k and yet handy..

I also got pc at home... Quad core with 9800GTX. for gaming... thumbup.gif
i think eeepc is worth buying... especially attract chicks.... ke ke ke... chicks tend to look at you when you get this pc... whistling.gif

hi guys... i manage to increase my memory space but removing the files according to the manual book.
Question: smile.gif

Pagging files... in default is 756MB.
the bigger the paging file setting, the better is the space consumption or the other way round?
I have 1G RAM at the moment.

as for the graphic memory crrently is 64MB, i have check the bios.. i couldnt find the setting for the memory or there isnt option for the memory size change.... thinking of increase it to avoid visual lagging...

jeromeccm = the bigger the paging file, the more space XP will use in the harddisk as if it was RAM..

The paging file is the area on the hard disk that Windows uses as if it were random access memory (RAM) This is sometimes known as "virtual memory." By default, Windows stores this file on the same partition as the Windows system files. You can increase the performance of Windows, and increase free space on the boot partition, by moving this file to a different partition.  (taken from microsoft support website)
i ve got an offer by a forummer...

eee pc here i come!! huhuhu...

splua333 = im sure if you post it in lelong or garage sale.. the eeepc is going to be sold in mere hours.. cause your price is among the lowest ive seen...  1k nett for a used eeepc is cheap dude...plus, there is someone in the garage sale that is looking for one for rm 1000.. give it a try..
*
to huh?

congrat forgetting a eeepc... and thanks for the information about the paging file as well. RM1k eh... ok la.. good price i think....

one thing i notice the batt life is not that good... easily used up the power of the batt...
or should i just charge for 8 hours like the method we do for handphone before using the laptop..?

yeah... I'm also interested in the additional battery..
wanted to grab one of the Eee during the PC Fair in Pg yesterday but they only sell the 4GB version without WinXP. The price was RM1299.
Anybody knows a shop in LowYat which sells the 4GB with WinXP? How much would it be?
*
thats the same price in most shops in lowyat. I dont think you can find 8G. I have asked many people in lowyat...

ooo.. that means there's only one model sold in M'sia as of right now?

In the Asus website, it stated there are 4 different models:
Eee PC 8G
Eee PC 4G
Eee PC 4G Surf
Eee PC 2G Surf

Anybody knows exactly the price for each model in RM?
*
yup.. you can say that... so far in market i only see 4G.
