is that zune theme?

hopefully i will received my 4G Black by today or tomorrow. smile.gif joining da club soon.

too bad no stock with 2GB ram and A-data 16GB SDHC sad.gif

Yeah, it's Zune.

Actually there's not much use for 2GB ram also since you won't be playing Crysis on it tongue.gif

1GB is enough for Eee friendly apps lor. I use 1GB only w/o pagefile also no problems. Storage is a different story altogether though.

Thinking of building a cooling pad with HDD for the Eee for 24/7 operation. tongue.gif

sniper on the roof : i noticed that you only provide the link to show the steps to install XP, u know any link that show the steps to install antivirus and microsoft office.

after install all these, how many MB left? can i install on the external SDHC? thanks.
*
Using a USB DVD drive or via a converter... pop in CD... click next next next ... custom install... uncheck all the things you don't use.. next next next.. finish. Done tongue.gif

But I use Openoffice and AVG anti virus instead with Winxp Nlite-d... about 2.4GB left.

Hi,

Can anyone help me here? I am having problems with my display. Currently my eee display is set to 800 x 480 but certain launched programs has its menu bar hidden beyond the top of the display and the "ok" "cancel" buttons hidden beyond the below the display. With the menu bar hidden, I cannot move the box to select the "ok" or "cancel" button. Any way to solve this? Thanks.

Google and download this tiny application called AltWindowDrag... add this to your startup.

This allows you to drag menus around by pressing alt + pointing anywhere in the menu.

And a fugly bag.. only reason I got this is cos it's not too expensive and can squeeze in the AC adaptor + external HDD without being too big

NT350 but I paid NT500 for it cos I like the sales tongue.gif

Cheapest way of doing that is get a few friends together, buy one of those 15.4" or 17" notebook screen protector, cut it up and divide it among yourselves.

*
The one I bought is specifically for 7" screen but just that there ARE alternatives.

time for more pic spam... this thread is getting boring leh.

To recap.. I've been using the Eeepc for 24/7 operation (basically BT'ing tongue.gif ) in conjunction with Eeectl to lower down the cpu speed and increasing the fan speed to 80% ( I find this 405Mhz + 80% fan speed the perfect balance.. keeps the temps at < 40C )

However, the bottom of the Eeepc still gets rather warm from the prolonged operation so I've been searching for a coolerpad for it but all that's available in the market are waaaaaaay too big for the Eee until today...

Went to Carrefour and came across one of these Carrefour branded lock-tight box which I bought to keep my extra PC stuffs moisture free (its airtight and I threw in a couple bags of silica)

user posted image

This is actually meant for use in the fridge so it comes with one of these a plastic spacer so the water from veges/meat can accumulate below the box

user posted image

Since I'm using the box to keep HDD's, rams and cpu's.. I don't need that spacer but it fits the Eeepc just nicely tongue.gif

user posted image

It basically just raises up the Eee about 0.8cm from the table surface thus giving the intakes more room to breathe.

Hey Sniper, are u running ur Eee at 450Mhz? i only managed to clock it down to 495Mhz with Eeectl. and further down will freeze my pc. can i noe how u achieve the 450Mhz clock? thx alotz!

I just use the ini below. So far no issues.

QUOTE
[settings]
Core.menu = speed,embed; fan,popup; temp,embed; core,embed;
Core.icon = speed,16776960; temp,65535;
Core.icondelay = 10000
Core.iconstrategy = 1

Speed.DisplayMultiplier = 1
Speed.StepDelay = 500
Speed.Freqs = 45,0,Eco; 50,0; 55,0; 60,0; 65,0; 70,0,Default; 75,0; 80,0; 85,0; 90,0; 95,0; 100,0,Full Throttle;
Speed.SuspendSetup = 70,0

[states]
Speed.speed=45
Speed.voltage=0
Fan.mode=1
Fan.speed=80

Edit: Just realised I made a typo there. I'm running 405Mhz

thx Sniper ! btw where did u get the ini from? after looking at your ini i realized that i 4got  a stepping sequence b4 going down to 45Mhz FSB, but i'm using this ini, which can go to 45Mhz FSB but 95 or 100 MHz would be unstable.

i'm using an Eee PC 701 (non-surf model)
bios Ver. 0401
512 MB RAM
Btw, do you guys noe where to get the best and cheapest RAM ? thx
*
Did the ini work for you?

Anyway, ram's cheap now.

shocking.gif  with 405MHz, manage to run firefox without high cpu utilization??
*
I run 405Mhz for BT to keep the temps down and also to extend batt life while surfing ( 2-3 tabs still ok). Otherwise... just whack it back to full speed lor.

continous surfing can tahan how long with that clockspeed so far?

Shouldn't be too much help since it's running the same vcore anyway. I tested AC draw earlier and it's not too much different.

I have my battery removed with 40% charge most of the time so just for sh1ts and giggles, am charging it up again now for a BatteryEater benchmark run later on.

Speaking of which...go try it lar... only 700kb in size

hi, jz for info i jz called up ASUS Service Center today at 03- 2148 0827 and they said we can do the RAM Upgrade on our own, without voiding the warranty wink.gif but the recommended is only 1GB RAM
*
I think they say that because 2GB sodimms have higher chances of incompatibility.

Frankly speaking, I really don't suggest upgrading the bios unless there's real significant fixes lor.

No point taking unnecessarily risk.

Added on February 16, 2008, 9:50 pmhi guys, jz like to noe how u guys prolong the life span of the battery pack, i mean to reduce the wear level? if the lesser u discharge/charge it will prolong the lifespan ?  i use mobilemeter and it says that my battery condition is already 98%n i don think i charge and discharge it for more than 20 times till now. thx !
*
yup.. that's why I keep the battery separate from the Eee when on AC. For prolonged batt storage, keep it at around 30-40% charge.

By the way, Asus already taking orders for spare batteries in Taiwan but only the standard 4 cell. Price is an INCREDIBLY OUTRAGEOUS RM300+ (roughly converted from NT to RM)
