In my situation, I made my gate larger, which meant I had to shift my TNB meter about 10 feet to the side. Since the cable was underground, the contractor had to dig. I got a quote from TNB initially, but I ended up paying the contractor directly. I asked the TNB officer to lower the price, and they agreed to a slightly lower amount. I also got quotes from two other groups, but both were much more expensive than the TNB-assigned contractor's price. You also need to check if the price is inclusvive of service charges from TNB since they have to inform your neighbour and shut down the power.

What do u mean end up paying directly to contractor? TNB contractor?

For my case, I went to TNB office to submit an application. TNB then appointed an officer to conduct an inspection and arrange for TNB-approved contractors to assess and provide quotations. This designated officer subsequently informed all the neighbors about the scheduled power supply shutdown on the day of the work. On that day, the officer collaborated with another TNB technician to deactivate the substation. After the task was completed, the TNB technician restored the power supply. Following this, the TNB officer visited the site to assess whether the contractor had met TNB's standards in their work. The total cost for these services from TNB amounted to RM 733.03. I needed to pay this amount in cash at the TNB office before the commencement of work.

Regarding the approved contractor, the scope of my project involved digging down 1 meter below the road level to extend the cables. The cost for this was RM 5600, which turned out to be more affordable than the two alternative quotes I obtained independently from other suppliers (recommended by my contractors). The vendor provided a detailed breakdown of the charges. If the cost of relocating your meter to the pillar is RM 1800, it might be a worthwhile option to consider. This move could potentially allow you to place the copper rod earthing outside your house.

Your case is relocate from wall to gate pillar?
Btw 1 phase or 3 phase?
Do u have photos of the meter before and after moved? So i can gauge RM1800 quoted for me justified or not.

That RM1800 to relocate to pillar is not my case...i havent ask the contractor about other ppl quoted that price.

My case is 3-phase 100A cables. If you are having 1 phase now, personally I think it would be better to convert into 3-phase. In the future, when considering the installation of an EV charging station, a fast charger may require a 3-phase supply.

From the photo, there isn't much visible the amount of the work as it was simply relocated to the side.

However, in terms of the undertaken tasks, the contractor had to manually excavate to a depth of one meter over a span of approximately 12 feet. The use of an excavator was not possible, so three laborers spent one entire day for the preparation work to lay the armoured cables. On the actual day, four workers spent half a day. Two did the joining of the armoured cables.

To proceed, I suggest that you initiate the process with TNB. Get the name of the designated officer for your case. There is no obligation that you must use the TNB vendor referred by this officer. From the officer, you can ascertain the specific license class required to carry out this particular task. You can get TNB-approved vendor independently. Best to ask your electrician to refer. Once you've your own quotations from various contractors, you decide yourself and get your preferred contractor to liaise with the TNB officer for the commencement.
