Hi all, recently im getting quote from contractor to do plaster ceiling with gypsum board.

He quoted me total 645sqft - RM7.5k with 8mm thick gypsum board for ceiling works together with emulsion white paint. plain ceiling works (flat type) w/o open light point.

Is it reasonable price? actually what difference nowadays between gypsum board and plaster ceiling board?? confused.gif

Any sifus here can give me advise? thanks!! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

gypsum board similar to 8x4 12mm partition wall
but for ceiling its 4x6 8mm.
this type is paper-wrapped and no fibre glass inside. its healthier.

while the old type got fibreglass and i hate working with that.
regarding the rate psqft.. i long time not updated with market price. so cant comment.

Agree. If use plaster board, expect contractor price around RM3.50/sf for flat board (supply + install only, no paint).

on the high side for this small sqft. Emulsion white paint 18L only cost around ~RM80 for 1 barrel.
Gypsum board same like partition wall, less dust and healthier, easy to work with.
Use at least 9mm thickness board which is available.
Generous contractor will open the light point for you, easy for them. Other may charge RM5-10 per hole. Try to negotiate ask the plaster ceiling guy to open FOC for you.

I did it for my house 8 months back. Your case is an apartment? For smaller area, usually the installers charge one lump sum. This is due to the transport and set up cost. You may want to ask for alternative quotations.

I spent RM4 for every square foot of gypsum board. The price was slightly higher due to my tall 3.6m ceiling. I thought the common psf is around RM3.60 - 4.00 at Klang Valley. The workers needed scaffolding, which was an extra charge. For the metal access panel (below those floor trap), it cost RM120 each. Making an open hole was RM5 per hole. The L box, sized 100mmx150mm, was priced at RM15 per foot.
