Hey all!

So I just became a first time parent and when i first found out that my wife was pregnant, the confinement centre/lady topic came up..

It was pretty daunting because we had so many things when it came to pregnancy as we were new, first it was which O&G to visit, which hospital for delivery and now confinement after the delivery..

So I hope this thread would be of great help, I is also not paid to write this in any way...

As a first time parent in Klang Valley, we were spoiled for choices for the amount of centres around here... We've been to most major centres but ultimately decided on Terra Confinement centre at PJ Midtown as it fits our budget, We are fortunate that and thankful for friends who have shared their experiences in confinement centres
.

Here are the criterias we came had

1) The place is clean and comfortable.(Important because mommy wants to get as much rest as she can after pregnancy)

2) They employ nurses instead of helpers/maid.. These nurses ranges from Senior Nurse, Assistant nurse & Mid-wifes.. Their head nurse Matron had vast experience in taking care of infants and also assisting with lactation

3) They cup feed infants to avoid nipple confusion (Some debate here but good to have options)

4) The baby bay is the same level as our rooms. (Some mothers came from other confinement centres which are house based went through csec and was placed on the 3rd floor while the baby bays were at the ground floor) She was complaining that she had to walk 3 flights of stairs down just to watch her baby and for them to take her baby up, it took them 90minutes, she was furious and came to Terra halfway, these are the things that I didn't consider but now I know how important it is to have the baby bay at the same level)

5) The ratio of nurses to babies, theirs is 4 babies to 1 nurse. LYC mentioned to us before that 4 babies to 1 is more than enough according to studies, Little Precious said theirs 3 babies to 1.

6) Food is of middle to high quality & balance (Good amount of vege and meat), sometimes i do see they give abalone to mommy in some soup.

7) Activities, they do have yoga for mummies and also classes such as, dental health, nutritional health and so forth but these are all companies promoting their products & services.

8) Massage lady here is good, wife seems happy and satisfied.

9) In this period of covid, they take safety measures seriously, once a week they'll sanitised the baby bay for 3 hours, daddy have to take covid tests every Monday and Thursday. Parents only allowed to visit once a week.

10) They do have their TCM that comes weekly and Paed as well but most of the time i am not around so can't comment much on this

We are currently on our third week here and I thought of writing this down as I know I'll be really busy after we moved back to our home for the newborn. I hope this thread finds you all well, if you guys have anything to contribute, feel free to do so, I might have missed out a few items. If there are questions feel free to ask as well rclxm9.gif

Nice review, we also have been looking around for a couple of weeks before deciding which confinement centre. In the end, we picked Terra. Their first impression is good and satisfied when we discussed the confinement information. Also as you have stated, it fits in our budget, RM14K (No window!) when we sign up.

My wife loves the environment of that place, clean and of course, it looks very new. The food that they show to us looks very similar to LYC and Kimporo meanwhile the other 2 are much more expensive than Terra.

Thanks dragon528!

Food is above average, some hit and miss but 90% are all good.. We've already brought it up to the owner

The reason why i wrote this is because as a first time parents, i really had no idea on what to look out for in a confinement centre and after hearing some bad experiences on those other confinement centres from the mommy that just moved to terra, i felt what i wrote above could be a good indication on what to look out for

To be honest even before checking in to Terra, we really didn't know what to expect out of it haha, but friends assured us that they had a good time here..

Cheers and congratulations on your new born!! ;D rclxm9.gif

My wife opted for c-sec therefore it was very tiring for her to move in and out, glad we picked the one with a dining table in the room

Does Terra offer studio/one bedroom apartment style where you will have a living room and bedroom together with microwave, fridge inside your unit?

There is a fridge in all the rooms if i am not wrong, there is one in our room, but the fridge is for you to refrigerate the breast milk only..

consumption items there is a common fridge for you to keep it at..

There is no bedroom but it is all studio, all of the sizes are different.. If you can afford the largest layout, I would highly recommend it.. Alot more convenient to dine with your partner than to eat out

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Could you please provide more information on the following:

1. Could you please share the total fees during your wife's stay there and any package details you have?
2. Is the confinement center located in the PJ Midtown building, which is under IOI?
3. How long did it take for them to reply to you?

I also sent a request to inquire about the package and viewing, but I haven't received a reply yet.

As soon as possible haha

You want to do as much research as possible and also get to know the people managing the centre, so it's best to visit as much as possible

Once you've visited a few, then you may negotiate the prices from there...

Do check out their cancellation policy as well since it's early and life is uncertain, touch wood.

From my experience, best to avoid those in houses.. Reason being from mommies who we've met at Terra shared their experience
- Mommy was placed on the highest floor and she had c-sec, as you know a few days after c-sec, it's very hard to walk and when she requested for her baby, she only gets to see her baby after half an hour.. She couldn't walk down the stairs and if she does it's very painful.. So that's why best to avoid houses and get a confinement centre where is located on a single floor

The people handling our babies are also very important, some just use foreign maids and some use nurses, do get the ones with nurses and have experience with newborns.
- Ratio of nurses to babies are also important, they say that 1 nurse to 4 baby is the ideal one.. When we did our research the lowest was little precious, if i am not wrong it was 1 nurse to 3 babies

Food is also important since you'll be having it daily, some are local cuisines, some taiwanese etc..

That's all for now and happy searching!
