Ive owned coway villaem and the electricity increase is not that much, should be aroung 20+. If even that u consider high consider a tankless water dispenser. my LG tankless use around 16kwh only permonth which roughly translate to rm6++

there are plenty of multi stage water purifier in shopee you can get at cheap price, filter change interval is at half a year to 1 year and they are inexpensive

in my old house i'm using the old National brand water purifier, no electricity required, change filter every year and i havent had any stomachache due to the water quality, those expensive RO filter or alkaline water is not needed for me

for my new house water supply, i use those china 40 micron stainless steel mesh pre-filter to filter bigger particles, then install a multi stage undersink water filter for drinking water, if want hot water for coffee just use those instant water boiler, i dont really drink cold water a lot, if need cold water just keep a 1.5L bottle in the fridge or put ice cube in water, less gimmick less breakdown

A cheap Panasonic Purifier + water kettle is the most economical way.

Malaysian tap water that went through treatment system is generally potable for people with a healthy immune system, except for the presence of particulates/mud/rust that makes water unpleasant to drink

A basic water purifier that filters out the particles + boiling to kill pathogens generally makes it safe enough for most.

Currently using a Joven JP200 filter, and most of the time I drink it straight from the filter, no boiling 😂 never really boiled water since my 20s unless I want hot water and/or the source of water is suspicious

Technically the Joven JP200 is a filter, but the marketing calls it a "purifier" because it removes excess chlorine smell. But true purifiers also decontaminate biological pollution (bacteria virus mold etc):

https://www.aquasana.com/info/water-filter-...urifier-pd.html

As for the difference between something like Joven JP200 and under sink filter, it's a question of countertop space, cost, and filtration capabilities.

Countertop like JP200: Cheaper overall, rent friendly (not a permanent installation/no need to drill or screw to cabinet), easy to install (typically can buy and plug to faucet), cartridge is not as efficient as undersink, might not remove contamination well if water super polluted.

Under sink: Needs to be mounted on wall/counter which is not possible if you're renting a house, more expensive, stronger filters, more "elegant" because it's not visible on counter, frees up your counter space.

The above link explains more detail, but I extract for you below:

Countertop water filters
Countertop water filters offer great filtration and convenience, as these systems can be installed exactly where you want such as within your kitchen. In fact, some countertop water filters can be attached directly to your faucet while others can be placed elsewhere if you’re lacking space by your sink.

While countertop water filters do offer a great level of filtration, it should be noted that they typically aren’t as powerful as whole house or under sink systems. As such, if you’re looking for maximum contaminant removal, you may want to consider other options.

Under sink water filters
Under sink water filters offer similar convenience to countertop filters, but are installed below the sink which means they’re out of sight and you gain more countertop space.

They also typically offer greater filtration performance, as many use a combination of activated carbon/catalytic carbon, plus ion exchange to capture and prevent those pesky contaminants from entering your water, like chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, chlorine-resistant cysts like giardia and cryptosporidium, pharmaceuticals, and more.

Let say we compare with Coway water purifier (rent to own basis) that comes with RM55 monthly installment which also covers 7 years free service, filter change, parts change, maintenance cost & warranty. After 7 years installment, total payment is RM4,620. But, we need to switch on 24 hours with very low electricity consumption since it comes with ECO power saving mode, can save up the cost you boil water using a kettle, how true is it?

Good things is that it comes with ready hot/cold/ambient water temperature mode.

Is that really worth if consider on long term basis?

This option is not bad, if your house members require hot/warm water constantly or at odd hours. i.e. baby/kid/old folks

If you dead set on having that convenience and don't mind the extra cost of the setup and the electric bill, sure.

If you want value for money, waste of time and money to buy coway or other similar purifiers with hot/cold function.

You can just buy a regular old school electrical thermos and it accomplishes similar thing to keep hot water handy.

Bear in mind also that if you're a regular working adult going to office/worksite, you won't be home half of the time of a week, so when you're not it this unit just continues to eat into your electricity bill.
