i bought an fm transmitter recently to be used with my old Gen 1 iPod Mini.

It suffers from pretty bad interference even though the channel is empty. There's a buzzing sound in the background, songs sound muffled, and after a few tracks, there will be loud machinery sounding interference when tracks change.

Then I got my iPod Touch and I tried it with the transmitter. The sound quality isn't great as expected but all the problems listed above were pretty much gone, at most gone.

WHat can be wrong? I'm guessing the transmitter is a little too sensitive and the HDD spinning inside of the mini kind of disrupts the signal abit. But i'm not sure. At first I though it was the transmitter, but now that the touch works well with it, it can't be it.

Anyone can shed some light on this mystery? I really want to make use of the mini in my car since I won't be using it much now that i've got the touch... no point selling it as well, and it is a collector's item nowadays considering how obsolete it is.

many thanks!

the machinery sound that you're talking about.. is from the spinning of the harddisk... as for the other problems , it could be the quality of the FM transmitter itself...

So the spinning harddisk does interfere with the reception? No wonder the touch works better with the transmitter. Wonder what to do with my mini
