Thinking of getting one. I heard the Indo ones all run away. Being english speaker also is a plus.
Anybody wanna share experience? How much is the cost/expenses? How it has impacted your home/family?
Anybody here got Filipino Maid?

Go to Kotaraya mall on a Sunday. Make new pinay friends there and see what they're like. Belanja makan at a carinderia or the nearby texas chicken.

why do u need a helper? other than having children or elderly to take care of, u are better off getting part time help
the drama that u will inevitably get with a live in helper might not be worth it |

1: get fresh one without working experience
2: if forced to, avoid those worked in saudi arabs(is it called middle east?). 3: prepare your job scope, send to your agent, their agent and the potential maid first before making any interviews. 4; philipines one are more educated, anything they dont like, they will report it to their embassy EVEN if its just a minor issue. ie-cibye majikan tak kasi saya makan at 7am. 5: if possible, deal with them extra pay with NO holiday OUTSIDE your house. some will say they wan holiday OUTSIDE the house with their friends, relatives, fukbuddy or whatever they want. holiday can, just stay in house and diam diam duduk sana. and the list go on. |

So choose one with working experience. worked in Kuwait for 2 year. turned out to be excellent. 3&4 this one also no strict job scope. just jaga anak clean house help wife to cook. when nothing to do she also sit watch tv or whatever. janji kerja jalan. she also prefer like this no need everyday order her to do something no specific day off also since most of the time not much work also 5. my maid 6th year now with us. no outside holiday. she went back Philippines twice (1 month each) but everywhere we go we bring her along la.. makan or holiday. so she also not too fussy. embassy got call her for interview also she say all ok no problem. never complain about working & holiday arrangements |

last time our family hired one filipino maid who worked in Jordan (a few years) and she was very good in cooking meat dishes
she worked for us for ~5 years and i think the experience is good. she's well educated (degree i think) and can speak english so unlike those indon maids that we had |

QUOTE(oM41GoD_ @ Aug 10 2023, 04:51 PM) QUOTE(berzerk @ Aug 10 2023, 05:00 PM) Not that easy, they are staying in your house. It is not like a normal workplace where you leave for your own home at the end of the day. And they are there in your house together with your kids/aged parents and all your valuables when you are not around. It takes time to build trust.A long time ago, one of our first maids, we were pretty relaxed about it. Imagine our shock when we came back after dinner and she was entertaining around 5-6 of her friends in our house. We talked to her after they left and asked her not to invite her friends over in the future. We changed maids not long after that. Nowadays, we don't care so much, because the current maid has been with us for so long. But in the beginning, yes, I can see where the concern comes from. |

QUOTE(johnnyg @ Aug 10 2023, 04:06 PM) EXACTLY! No1 is the best option. You suck as an employer. No wonder Malaysia maids get abused. Have some human decency to let them out once per week..u try staying in someone's home 24/7 for years on.No 5 is a must!!! Once out, they will want more... Never ever give them out, they will come back and tell u their friend get better perks, etc, and start to show face and demanding... |

I don't have a maid at all but I hired one local early educator who's 28 to help watch my two year old son while I'm at work and she will pick him and send him to his doctor/dentist/hair cut appointments.
Much much easier than hiring a maid. |

QUOTE(Lembu Goreng @ Aug 10 2023, 10:15 AM) Thinking of getting one. I heard the Indo ones all run away. Being english speaker also is a plus. We hired one early this year as we had a 3rd baby otw, and already have a 4yo and 2yo at that time. Anybody wanna share experience? How much is the cost/expenses? How it has impacted your home/family? Agency fee is going to range from around RM10k-15k Salary minimum now is about RM1800, their contract bases the minimum wage in USD and not MYR. So if currency exchange is bad, the minimum wage goes up too. Filipino in general have better English, but depending on where they are from; a lot of "common sense" things to us, is not to them. So have to be clear and detailed with the house rules. This is especially important for things like hygiene and safety. So far ours is great with the kids, but when it comes to work task and organization always make small mistakes here and there. Quite annoying, but after a few discussions got improvement. Always expect the first 6 months or so to be high friction. My biggest advice to you is choose the right agency, and I hope you're good at interviewing people. A lot of the candidates we interviewed were obviously lying or answering from a "script" of what the right answer should be. Automatically reject those candidates. As for agency, we went with PinkCollar. They are quite different in the sense that they don't provide "warranty" and that to me was a plus. Warranty in the maid industry is a bloody scam. By not giving warranty and instead they are committed to solving issues you have with your DH shows they are willing to be responsible and accountable. |

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Aug 10 2023, 05:37 PM) Please educate me. Ok la, I share my experience. Although since it was so long ago, I may have forgotten some things. What most of you are saying. No going out. Ever. Except to go back to their home country. Must be at home from Monday to Sunday. What is this? Modern slavery? When she first came, we did not allow her to have Sunday off, not exactly an issue with Indonesian maids. Still isn't actually. We bring her out when we go out for dinner and we always try to keep an eye on her. At one point we were thinking of a cctv lol. All valuables in locked drawers or the safe at all times. Then you start to relax after a while. You are ok with leaving her alone for increasingly longer periods of time. Once you get past the 2-3 year mark, she starts to become like part of the family. Nowadays, if my daughter is working and it is just us, we just bring her along when we go to the supermarket or something. Although most of the time she just asks us to tapau something for her la. She has a big house back in Indonesia and usually asks us to go with her on a trip back. Maybe next round la. |

QUOTE(silverhawk @ Aug 10 2023, 06:05 PM) You know what most of the warranty agencies do? they just cycle the maids. I asked before, the agency said that they will usually hire out as daily paid workers, or temporary maids. So you just replace one f`ked up maid with another. QUOTE(RiriRuruRara @ Aug 10 2023, 06:05 PM) Wta if take maid from the agency will you get to choose the maid from a lineup and get to interview them or they just send you whoever they feel like sending over?? My time, is they have a list like resumes, then they will arrange a time when you can come over and interview the maid. The agent advised me at that time to leave everything to do with that part to my wife to prevent any problems later on. I still remember lol.Not sure now they have zoom meetings or not lol. QUOTE(Lembu Goreng @ Aug 10 2023, 11:15 AM) Thinking of getting one. I heard the Indo ones all run away. Being english speaker also is a plus. My experience has been good. 7 years and counting. She had worked in Middle East previously where the employer was quite tough. Cost of hiring a new maid every two years is well over RM10k. So I'm more than happy to share the savings with her every time she renews contracts via salary increases. Most successful bosses will advise you to pay more to keep good staff happy. I practice the same at home too. Maid salary at your discretion. I would suggest RM2K+ a month. Don't forget Filipino maid must pay monthly SOCSO now as the embassy will ask for proof later. This is legally required since 2022, but I'm told that the Indonesian embassy so far hasn't checked. Other costs such as meals also at your discretion. Can be low RM100 per week, can be much higher too if maid follows out for meals and shares same food. Impact on home & family is highly positive. Anybody wanna share experience? How much is the cost/expenses? How it has impacted your home/family? |

I think maids are not the same as a normal employee. They are people who are actually living with you. The concerns made by others in this tered are valid. You are essentially bringing in a stranger to live in your house. Treat them decently yes, but as a part of the family? That will take time. |

QUOTE(oM41GoD_ @ Aug 11 2023, 08:23 AM) Annual leave= got, one month including return flight ticket to hometown This is way oversimplifying things. It is not giving new employers a clear picture of what they are getting into.Bonus= depends EPF= not compulsory. Unless she wanna minus her salary and put into EPF. Socso = already compulsory Insurance= now socso already cover most of it. Dental= go to clinic, dental, all boss paid. These are common practices. Hiring a maid =/= Hiring a normal salaried/contract employee It is completely different! Anyone hoping for the same as a normal employee is going to be in for a rude shock. It is perfectly fine to dislike a colleague, you see them for <8 hours a day. You are going to be sleeping in the same house with the maid! She will have access to your kids, your parents, your valuables at all times. None of your colleagues have that access! And remember when she comes, she is a complete stranger, you have to build up a good relationship with her. For an employee, you hire them, they do their job, you pay them. Habis cerita. You don't need to be friends with them! And just to clarify: 1) Annual leave is not mandatory for maids, but many will go home once at the end of the contract period. If you want them back, prepare for a salary hike. Flight tickets are not mandatory as well, you can pay for her if you want if she has been a good employee. 2) Bonus is definitely not mandatory 3) EPF not mandatory 4) SOCSO mandatory 5) Insurance only Socso, actually this is a good thing. 6) Dental/clinic not mandatory but please la have some decency edit: you have to balance that with a small distance or some maids will take advantage of you!
