System is server.
Not overclocking (no option to anyway).
Support DDR4-2133, 4 slots, each capable up to 16Gb, for a total of 64GB.

--

Previously bought 2x Kingston Fury Beast KF432C16BB1A (16GB)
DDR4-3200
16 * 1GB chip (found out today)
16-18-18 latency

Today received 2x Kingston Fury Beast KF432C16BBA (16GB)
DDR4-3200
8 * 2GB chip (found out today)
16-20-20 latency

--

My questions:
(1) Does it matter the positioning of which stick goes into which slot number?

(2) Anyhow, is there recommended positioning for me to insert?

(a)
slot 1 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 2 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 3 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 4 - stick with 2GB chips

(b)
slot 1 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 2 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 3 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 4 - stick with 1GB chips

©
slot 1 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 2 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 3 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 4 - stick with 2GB chips

(d)
slot 1 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 2 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 3 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 4 - stick with 1GB chips

(e)
slot 1 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 2 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 3 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 4 - stick with 1GB chips

(f)
slot 1 - stick with 2GB chips
slot 2 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 3 - stick with 1GB chips
slot 4 - stick with 2GB chips

for server, you need to consult the manual..most of server chasis will have this information sticker there. You could try option C or D..but for server, timing is essential..some wont event boot if the stick is not matched

Give la server make or model, single or dualies.

Usually they have the info label underneath the chassis cover.

Thank you for QUICK(!) replies. I'll set alternating as recommended.

Above set is dual rank.
Below set is single rank.

If you wanna run at XMP speeds, its gonna be a real challenge for stability.in the first place to run server should have gone with ECC RAM and not gamer XMP kits.

If still can I suggest to return the new kits and get matching pair of dual rank ones, follow the model ID naming.

i'm not using it for overclocking.

the machine is not mine, but i need to process huge amount of data in shortest amount of time.

i bought it using my own fund.
that's why i bought DDR4-3200 eventhough the machine only max DDR4-2133; with intent to later move it to my own machine, WHEN and IF i bought my own machine. definitely not that generous to leave 64GB in somebody else's machine after i'm done. 🥹

the earlier sticks were bought over counter because i needed it immediately; it is the only 16GB sticks available when i was shopping around. i wasn't even particular about it being gaming sticks or not. in fact, WHEN THE HELL DID THE INDUSTRY START MAKING AND DIFFERENTIATING RAM STICKS FOR GAMING!?

the later sticks were bought online, but the differences in number of chips only realised after i received. i didn't realise before that there are multiple versions of a supposedly same RAM spec.

Thank you.

You prompted me to look into what is dual rank and what is single rank. I kind of get the pros and cons.
For my current workload, I think the performance impact is probably negligible, but I am now interested with the supposed performance shift. if only I had instead received another set of dual rank.

XMP are pretty much for gaming, servers usually use ECC sticks or else value rams that can achieve highest Jedec speeds supported by ur mobo.

Initially did select ECC RAM in the first place.
But because they are not proven in the machine (despite documentation saying so) and i'm spending my own money, I backtracked and went for desktop RAM, just like the one pre-installed from factory.

I chose 3200 instead of 2133 because shopkeeper said it will downclock itself to match motherboard. 3200 is me investing in my own future machine. and it was the only stick that is DDR4 16GB available back then.
I didn't even know desktop RAM nowadays have so many flavours - even come with RGB!
I was stupefied after switched on first time after install 😅

Last desktop that I owned was more than 25yrs ago.
