Hi guys,

I used to play badminton alot during primary school years and later during uni time.

during that time I used an orange Yonex carbonex racquet which is super responsive, lightweight and has power in smash. U can feel the strings everytime when hitting the shuttle and there is a "teng teng" sound to it.

Now I lost the racquet. can recommend a similar racquet?

I’m planning to buy a racket too.

A badminton shop recommended YONEX ARCSABER 11. I Google it and there are many good feedback about this racket.

You can consider it.

200-300ish play series like ktard mentioned is good enough. Spend more on better shoes is wiser. Racquet up to a certain quality/price point doesn’t make much of a difference more to your skills/playstyle

Suggest you go to shop to try out the rackets 1st. There will be head-heavy, light weight and even balance racket to choose from.

Head heavy : Astrox 100, Astrox 99

Lightweight : Nanoflare 700 & 800, Arcsaber 7

Even balance : Arcsaber 11

This is some of the example that I've tested. I havent test the Li-Ning ones yet, but their design is so much better looking than Yonex.

If you not serious to play every week, just buy cheap RM100 rackets is enough.

If you do plan to play regularly then makes sense buy more expensive rackets.

Do check the price in Shopee and Lazada.

The YONEX ARCSABER 11 price in the shop is RM28X. A few sellers in Shopee selling it at RM22X (original ones). With coins and upcoming 8.8/9.9, you can further reduce it.

One of the junior in my squash group is using Apacs racket. It's not costly, but it's consider a good racket for its price. Nice feel, no complain

Good shoes this cc ff3
But costly for a beginner.

Beginner can just get upcourt, if can top up a bit then get rocket gel.

Most beginners do not know why you need a proper shoes. I've seen many wearing running or gym shoes. Dangerous.

Depends how much you willing to spend
RM300 budget can get many decent racket

Yonex Arcsaber 11play
Yonex Astrox 99play
Yonex Nanoflare 1000 play
Victor TK HMR
Victor TK HMRL
Victor DX 888

Below RM200
Most budget Felet
Yonex arcsaber lite or astrox lite

Beginner no need spend so much.
Get 4U/5U spec with either head heavy or even balance racket. Headlight racket you might not have the wrists strength to swing proper. And also use lower tension string from 20lbs to 24lbs.

Normal sport shoes are designed for you to run straight. Badminton shoes are design for badminton movement. Literally all direction from center point. Mostly involve lunges. But if you are just beginner and no basic footwork, wear slipar also can.

There is difference if you wear normal sport shoes compared to badminton one. Normal will be slippery and prone to falls if floor is "moist".

I find that if we are beginner skill level, its better to buy cheaper beginner's racket that has larger sweet spot. Expensive rackets are meant for intermediate/expert players who has sufficient training and technic in hitting the shuttlecock correctly and consistently. Buying expensive racket as a beginner is going to be counter productive and ends up frustrating the player

Astrox = heavy smasher
Arcsaber = balance and good control = best for beginner and even pros
Nanoflare = lightspeed but only buy if you rich, it will crack out of no where.

Recommend : Arcsaber 11 pro. Best racket I use so far. The game & play version i dont know.

Sports shoes as in running shoes?

Difference is grip and stability to the side ways movement of the game.

And next difference is that you will most likely sprain your ankle. Lol

Just buy RM30 felet from lazada/shopee will do kot.. at least that's what I bought my kids lah. Good enough for them. We play badminton in court maybe only once every 2 months. Btw before I come to this thread I thought RM200 + is considered an expensive and professional racquet.. never thought that's considered cheap even for beginners haha

Buy carbonex 9 and won’t go wrong

The gold color body one

Long retired model.

Now Yonex play series.
Arcsaber 11 play and Astrox 99 play is popular one.
Nanoflare 1000 play is really nice to play imo.

If you wanna throw in money. Better buy good shoe than good racket. For Yonex, buy at least the Power Cushion models.
SHB39 and SHB50 is good enough.

Want absolute premium can go for 65Z or Eclipsion Z

Yonex gonna revise their price soon.

Victor shoes premium model
Can go for ACE970 or 9200iii or 8500

200-300ish play series like ktard mentioned is good enough. Spend more on better shoes is wiser. Racquet up to a certain quality/price point doesn’t make much of a difference more to your skills/playstyle

I am a beginner and just bought one from Titan SS2 back in Oct/Nov last year.

Price was around 110 including string and grip. Brand is Felet.

If you're in SS2 area, there's a new Victor shop called Galaxy Sports. Around the same area, there's also another shop which sells Yonex (and other brands) called Titan.

Damansara Uptown got one called Tingkat Satu Badminton. The boss will only recommend what suits you after doing some fact finding. Not those who just wanna sell expensive rackets.

Just tell him you're a beginner, what style you wanna play and he will recommend some based on your budget and suitability. But if you want to restring, you'll need to leave your racket there for 2-3 days as they have a lot of rackets queueing for restringing.
