Thank you! I’m not familiar with the wine. Is it a red? Shiraz? Pinot Noir? Bordeaux? Burgundy?

We usually prefer Bordeaux wines - waifu has developed quite a taste for the usual suspects, Mouton, Lafite and her personal favorite, Cos d’Estournel. I don’t mind the nose of a Margaux but I’m really not a big fan.

Ah, no wonder. Waifu is, as you can see from my listing, more of a left bank girl with her Cos.

Culture couldn't be bought. what one eat is how he was brought up.

To be fair, sometimes it’s less of culture and more of a case of sour grapes.

A Michelin starred restaurant meal in Singapore for 2 can approach $1,500 to $2,000 excluding wine and beverages. Convert that using 3.5 and this is easily the month’s take home pay for some people.

Now most would just read about the experience quietly and perhaps aspire to one day achieve the financial clout to entertain the idea of splashing out RM7,000 for a meal for 2 - whether they do it or not is irrelevant - it’s the ability to do so that’s important.

Some may choose to criticize what they don’t know.

You should try the other restaurants out there with the stars... we are spoilt for choice in Singapore!

Which other Michelin starred joint else have you been?

In Singapore I've been to Zen, Odette, Les Amis, Labyrinth, Cloudstreet, Cut, Marguerite, Corner House (lost their star and closed). Favourite in Singapore is probably Zen but I heard standard has dropped since they changed chef. I also really like Corner House..

Best so far I had is Per Se in New York and a 2 Star Restaurant (L'abeille) in Paris Shangri-La which has long closed.
Per Se is a controversial choice because most people think that the food is boring and rather dated but the cooking and service were really on point during my visit. I couldn't secure booking to Atomix when I was in NY but would like to try it..

Worst for me are Le Bernardin in New York (really bad, even side bread was cold) and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay (the 3 stars one in London).

A seasoned connoisseur! I didn’t find Zen particularly appealing and I would be very surprised if they kept their 3 stars this latest round (due later this week, IINM) - would probably not go back now that you’ve more or less confirmed my suspicions.

Labyrinth and Cloudstreet are the 2 I’ve not been in your list of restaurants in Singapore… might give them a try, since I never seem to be able to get a table at Burnt Ends!

Thanks for sharing!

Zen was not good at all on my first visit (acidity is out of whack; I could only taste sourness in everything). Second visit after 1 year gap was much much better. So the inconsistency is not so good.... it may dropped off from my ranking if I visit the third time so I won't do it.

Should definitely try Labyrinth.. it's a fun experience.
