Bringing this up since crazy neighbors and condo issues are becoming a trend on /k again.

New PRC neighbors just moved in next to me and they love keeping their living room door open and slamming their doors all the time, be it the front door, the bathroom door and bedroom door (they’re pretty light doors). I’ve caught them in the act as well, just swinging the door against the frame with a push.

Now I thought it was ignorance but after confronting them and asking them to close the doors gently since the doors were light, they stopped for a few days and continued their weird behavior again.

I had to deal with slamming doors for the past year at my condo and it’s usually foreigners who love to do this.

Is it ignorance, a lack of civic mindedness or they just don’t give a damn?

People's habit die hard, especially when it's not important to them.
Just be thankful that they're not stomping or blasting music, those lasts much longer.
Maybe one day when their door spoils and they have to pay for repairs, they might change their ways. Nothing teaches better than having to use personal funds to fix things.

Middle-aged man and middle-aged woman working in the KLCC area. Oh, and they like to keep their living room door open so the whole corridor can see what they’re doing. Apparently it’s quite common in China.

China people are known to be uncouth. So I would say it's attitude problem.
Unfortunately management and you can't do much since it's their home after all.
You're probably going to have to learn to live with it.

guess it's a social/cultural norm among PRCs

i've seen PRC hotel guests leaving their hotels doors open rclxub.gif

i've seen it happening in Malaysia and also in a foreign country.

Probably inherit the habit from their shared communal living era (the failed great leap forward era) where everyone live together in the same building.

Speak very loudly some more

i stayed in china before so i can share some outlook on this.
they open the door so the airflow is better (yes there's a huge difference). security is not really a concern since there are always people in the house when they do that (very rare to have armed robbery, usually just small theft, and still be caught because there's cctv everywhere)
so yes, it's quite common.

most of the time they prefer natural airflow over aircond

as for door slamming, also yes. it's quite a norm. not like purposely slamming it hard, but just enough to let it close automatically. my place a bit more civilized so the door slamming doesnt occur that much.

PRCs are really one kind

really jakun betul (though I understand that's not a P.C. term nowadays...)

because of the destruction and poverty caused by Communist rule, their concept of acceptable behaviour is completely out of whack with more civilised countries

(then again, don't be too harsh - Japs would think we're terribly barbaric as well)

nothing you can do I'm afraid, other than give constant reminders

PRC... biasala

brainless and uncivilized (not all, but at least 70% of them)

in msia , they even spit in condo lifts and common areas, just saw a PRC spitting in KLIA few months ago

this is their normal practice in their mainland... in genting, there are "no spitting" signboards just for PRC...

CCP brainwashed them to be loyal like a dog , and didn't educate them proper manners

they think they are the biggest top race/country who owns the whole world

now you know why civilized people/countries hate China and PRC

Slamming door normal kot...my place you cant just close the door like that after you press the lock knob...everybody from upstairs till down will slam...below me there is one couple open their main door, can hear children screaming, mother scolding, their pet bird chirping...and their kids feet stomping when playing...every other neighbour also slam door...and those that didnt wd-40 their grill when open kreeeeeekkkkkk...bising sialll....but living here 5 years i guess i got used to it...

Above me got one makcik when walk causing earthquake, ...so loud the stomp...but i did talk to her nicely saying this is an old structure, gave recommendation to wear slipper or put carpet and she did. So lesser now during night time. When she play with her cat with the kunci i also can hear.

Overall living with dirty retard neighbors also an issue...feed cat at the bottom and put food infront her door...cat eat shit, pee infront everyone house...next door neighbor ikat rubbish by their front door and see rubbish water flowing out...always when they bring rubbish out from their house it will drip with all the marinated rotten food water..

one day i will just buy a land far away and build a house underground rclxs0.gif

One solution that kinda works is use the door rubber seal for cars, do it on all you door frame, use those blackout anti sound curtains and it kinda reduce those sounds. But door slamming and mortar poundings and bone chopping still cant dampen that sound.

I’ve seen you keep complaining about neighbours in other threads

I think you are not suitable living in condo/apartment

Go find a landed house to rent. Landed house rental cost also quite similar with condo.

If u seriously want a peace and quiet environment, go buy a land and build a house where no neighours on left and right

Dah nama pun duduk condo/apartment, people are living left, right, above and below you. You sounds like a typical karen that I handled last time when I was working in Property management office

did airbnb once and the other room is occupied by a lady ccp and yeah she was slamming the door all the time, it was kinda weird
not sure if its some kampung people where they dont care about noise or what
but it felt more like they just close the door really hard coz hand either occupied or they want to make sure its close on the first swing and since the doors dont have soft close it slams
feels that way more than the annoyed malice type when people are angry then they slam the door
it feels weird but its there

Ah, the perils of staying in a cheap apartment. Long ago my neighbours used to have 6 kids from small to teens, combined with his brother opposite who also have 6 of their own, everyday running up and down the corridor screaming and playing football that slams randomly on the grill of the unlucky owner in the way of their brilliance.
During raya they'll go downstairs and play petrol bombs nearby the building from day to night. They also dragged their sofa out into the corridor to lepak when their father wasn't home.
During sembang time will crowd and sit on the stairs while the brave soul who dares to cross their path have to weave between their fat asses like a motobodo during traffic jam.

Luckily I was only temporarily staying there for a couple of years.

Actually its a cina tradition for us to signified "welcome" only until recently, since the 80s we lost it due to security/kepoh reasons due to kiasu attitude of sizing each other up.
open door used to be a thing for us since neighbours knows each other intimately unlike today
the same applies to slamming the door to signified "here got human stay" as well, until recently we stop that due to reasons of "i dont want to know you, i dont want to care about you" attitude we recently slowly inherit.
shame or not, i foresee in the near future we will have an outbreak of ppl die in their own house and nobody knows until months later like those in japan.

There is normal condo noise and there are annoying noises that people don’t have to put up with. Guess you’re the type with low standards but even with landed houses, people have problems with noises there as well.

Oh, and they like to keep their living room door open so the whole corridor can see what they’re doing. Apparently it’s quite common in China.

Also common in Malaysian homes everywhere. Landed, condo, kampung houses. Especially among old folks, probably due to lack of AC in their day and habits stick.

i've lived with people that owned the house also slam the door as if it's free rclxub.gif

Exactly. But most comments insinuate only PRC do it due to being uncouth.

I know many who do this, including my entire family. Myself only realised it was an issue when gf pointed it out. I didn't use to slam but didn't close doors gently either.
It's a combination of lack of civic mindedness, ignorance and in denial.

My condo neighbor opposite of mine from China always keep door open 24/7. Talk also damn loud and always slam door. Cook also the whole corridor can smell. Is it a norm in China to leave door open and talk damn loud with door open? Its getting on my nerves. Guess these people are just uneducated.
