Astro radio channels already considered DAB. I bet if DAB ever starts here..it won't be free. We got lots of greedy businessmen and the politicians as the catalyst and cohorts that are out to bleed the rakyat and they profit kenyang kenyang!..Malaysia Boleh!. icon_idea.gif

AM/FM band are in the kHz and Mhz radio wave band. DAB or Sat TV transmission is in the Ghz band..similarly to your cellular phone transmission. The radio band are governed by a world body and alloted to operate within a certain bandwidth...they cannot crossover or mingle with other communication equipment.

Personally, I would only consider it if they do broadcast the right content. Not the hitz.fm kinda content. Probably some classical and Jazz.

BTW, The current digital broadcast in Malaysia only runs at 128kbps.

Consider it non existent at this point of time for Malaysia. I know DAB receivers for car audio are being sold in other developed countries but not applicable here. Car audio importers aren't going to import or make such players if it cannot be used to potential here. On the same note, look at how slow the implementation of DTV where the latest is only East Coast Peninsula Malaysia is being near full transmission and Klang Valley is still on trial run. Our neighbors up north and south are already transmitting lots of DTV channels to the delight of their citizens who can buy an add on decoder on the cheap and patch it to their TV easily.
I think the most approximate digital radio is by Astro for subscribers and obviously not FOC. Meanwhile I reckon anyone still rely and be entertained with good ole FM radio transmission.

DAB never happened in Malaysia. The future was supposed to be using a DVB-T variant, but Internet radio streaming over 4G is more likely to be the way forward.
We are lucky here with fairly generous data plans.

I'm guessing that current sale LCD TV's may not all be with DVB tuners to receive terrestrial Digital TV. There's no news on it, and have been on "trial" or silent transmission for those who buy a DVB set top box to access it. The gomen oso make dunno.. Forget DAB time being..there's no real will on implementation.

TVs have to have DVB-T tuners built in.
DVB-T and DAB are similar technology, but different frequency (DAB uses the old VHF III band).
