Every brand is good. If u follow their instructions.

Most important is surface preparation. U skip on that, what brand also tak guna.

What mean surface preparation? Means need to paint base layer with sealer /undercoat first? What if my new house already have undercoat?

I give paint shop this color code OW 1087 P (Nippon Paint) but they said it can be mixed and matched. Any idea why need to mix only can get the color I want?
Is it because not in their color chart https://www.nipponpaint.com.my/assets/np-co...-collection.pdf ?

Jotashield and weatherbond outside.. So far satisfied for both my houses.

Not sure of the difference maybe you can refer to specialists. Won't go wrong with either of the brand

all paints really have to use their machine to mix & match and come out with your color code accordingly.. there is no ready color code paint available in each shop.. but they have their machine to come out the code u want

Ok, but it won't guarantee 100% accurate, right? Different shop will use different machine to mix and match and come out my color code. What if they use cheaper brand of machine? I was wondering how it may differ from my expectation.

Jotun call it multicolour machine, not sure what nippon call it, every machine is maintained by their respective manufacturer, nippon will be maintain by nippon , jotun by jotun, there is no cheap or expensive machine

You go to the shop tell them the colour code and also the type of paint you want, when they key in the info in machine they will be able to tell you the price

The colour is mostly accurate, if you buy the same colour but from different shop, and you found that the colour is different side by side then you can try to contact the paint manufacturer for warranty, but I'm not sure how is the process here

For nippon I find that the painted colour is very different from the catalogue, while Jotun painted colour is always very closely matched to the catalogue, but nippon has better wood stain colour, I like their hydrowood wood stain series, I haven't tried Dulux before so no comment on that brand

If you want to choose colour that is not in the catalogue, you can go to shop and request for fan deck, nippon has 1000 colour fan deck, while Jotun has 800 if I'm not mistaken, but choosing from fan deck is risky because you can't take the fan deck back home to match with your house lightning condition

i cant confirm whether it isnt 100%.. but it is almost identical.. just after paint on your wall + lighting effect, color looks a bit different.. cause browser/catalogue show dark black, might turn outemaybe a bit dark green/dark blue.. too many factors.. some do have white color wall as base, some have otthhr color on wall as base.. paint on it might create different color too..

machine wise should be provided by paint manufacturer if they are authorised dealer for the paint.. like earlier member shared, nippon color slightly off in my opinion as well, but jotun is quite identical.. but go home and back on it, slightly different feel again.. hahaha

All machines are brand dependant. Nippon got Nippon machine, Jotun got Jotun machine etc. Authorized dealers will use their respective brand machine. No "cheap" machine unless they're scam shop 😂😂😂

Usually paints don't keep ready stock in store unless is basic colors in some bigger chain hardware store, and even then only small amounts for small DIY projects (not enough for full house).

As far as whether what you see is what you get, must consider both the finish and also the LRV of the paint. What you see on screen/in shop might not be true when put in your house, because of different lighting condition.

Best bet is to ask for samples, if you're DIYing

not really. skim coat is just to make the surface even and less wavey before apply painting or else you can see lot of uneven/wavey walls under the lights

i guess the dirty part is more to the weather and you need some good exterior paint
