BANGKOK (Bernama): Thailand's tourism industry received 14.15 million foreign visitors and collected 588 billion baht in revenue from January 1 to July 16 this year, stated the Tourism and Sports Ministry.

Malaysians accounted for the top five foreign visitors to the country, with 2.24 million, followed by Chinese (1.65 million), South Korean (830,576), Indian (826,390), and Russian (825,777) tourists.

"The ministry forecasts that the number of foreign visitors to Thailand will exceed 15 million by the end of July, with the number of tourist arrivals increasing after school holidays in many regions,” it said in a statement.

In the meantime, income from the tourist industry in Thailand is anticipated to reach 3 trillion baht in 2024.

China now got rumors that Thailand has organ harvesting syndicates. That's why fewer tourists go there.

Another reason is China's economy is not good.

Meanwhile, I guess many Malaysians go to Hatyai for 1 or 2 nights stay only.

School break... even the smaller border crossing at Wang Kelian oso jam. 😅

---+---+---
Thai border congested with vacationing M’sians

THE Customs complex at the Malaysian-Thai border in Padang Besar, Perlis, is seeing major congestion amid the school holidays that just started.

Utusan Malaysia reported that people have been queuing up at the Wang Kelian Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) complex as early as 8am.

A visitor from Kedah, Mohd Shaiful Abd Rahim, said he had to cancel his family trip to Thailand due to the massive number of people.

“My family decided to cancel the plan and will probably choose another destination,” the 42-year-old said.

Siti Suhana Yusof, 39, from Perak said her family was stuck in traffic jams for hours.

“We thought the Wang Kelian entry point should be easier because (we thought) there would be fewer vehicles, but not this time,” she said.

I just returned from Bangkok, been there from Wednesday night until noon Sunday.

Spent around rm800 just for 3 days, walaooo! (Not yet include hotel and flights). Ini baru 1 person, imagine 1000000 persons do the same.

Good thing about Thailand is even at tourist places, locals also buy food from the same food stalls as the tourists so you know the foods are good and cheap. If in Malaysia, you are retarded if you locals buy foods at tourist places because the foods are not only expensive, but tak sedap too

Notes: can use TNG app to pay for BTS tickets (choose QR payment and then choose Thai pay), so you no need to always change coins. Paying for food using PromptPay is not consistent though, sometimes can but most times cannot.

This is excellent proactive action 👍

Thailand suspends TM6 form at Sadao Immigration Checkpoint

For incoming and outgoing travellers passing through from 1 November 2023 to 30 April 2024.

Thailand is temporarily suspending the need to fill out the ‘To Mo 6’ (TM6) immigration form for travellers entering and exiting Thailand at the Sadao Immigration Checkpoint in Songkhla starting from 1 November 2023 until 30 April 2024.

The stimulus policy is to facilitate Malaysian tourists to Thailand during this high season. It is to ease immigration procedures at the Sadao Immigration Checkpoint, which recorded about 100,000 Malaysian visitor arrivals each month this year.

Malaysian tourists represented the highest number of foreign visitors to Thailand.

From 1 January to 31 October, this year, Thailand recorded 3,342,819 Malaysian visitors. Their average trip expenditure is estimated at 16,588 Baht per person.

The temporary suspension of the TM6 form is part of the Thai government’s quick-win policy to boost tourism through ‘ease of travelling’ measures. Other measures have included the temporary visa exemption schemes for tourists from China, India, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Taiwan.

Latest govment-govment initiatives to facilitate the Thai-Malaysia border crossings:

- Expand the Sadao/Bukit Kayu Hitam check point, by having a new check point. Expected to complete by 2025.

- Build another bridge over the Kolok River, connecting Rantau Panjang and Sg. Kolok.

https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/genera...rder-checkpoint

---+---+---

Proposals by tour operators and thai businesses:

- No more white cards at Padang Besar and other border crossings too. Currently, only at BKH.

- No more OT fees. Currently, fee collection for extra-time service between 5-9am, noon to 1pm, and 4.30-11pm.

(Tourists are required to pay 20 baht per person, while tour buses have to pay 500 baht per bus.)

- No more bus restrictions to Songkhla province only.

(He said this restriction was initiated in 2014, which caused tourism operators to lose 50,000-60,000 visitors per month as large numbers of Malaysian tourists wanted to visit other provinces... They also wanted to travel to seaside provinces such as Phuket, Krabi and Surat Thani, said Mr Songchai.)

Another initiative by the new siam govment, ‘World Water Festival – The Songkran Phenomenon’.

---+---+---

Thailand’s Songkran to be celebrated for entire April in 2024

BANGKOK (The Nation Thailand/ANN): A Thai government committee plans to hold Songkran Festival celebrations during the entire month of April 2024, instead of the traditional three days, in a bid to entrench Thailand’s standing among the top 10 global destinations for festivals.

Songkran, the Thai traditional new year, falls on April 13, which is also National Elderly Day.

Two more holidays were later added on April 14 and 15 as National Family Day and Thai New Year Day, respectively, to allow the Thais more time to celebrate reunion with their families.

Populist party Pheu Thai leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who chairs the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, announced the plan on Dec 1 on her Facebook page.

She said that the soft power plan for 2024 has started, with 12 subcommittees across 11 industries proposing budgets to boost the creative economy.

“Another exciting topic discussed today was the plan for Songkran Festival next year,” said Paetongtarn.

“The next Songkran will not be the same as previous years, as we are preparing a grand event ‘World Water Festival – The Songkran Phenomenon’.”

Okay, here's my fast trip to Betong...

user posted image

- started the journey at 6.00am, reached Pengkalan Hulu about 9.30am.

- buy the compulsory insurance at its town center. Only RM15 for 7 days. Asked the girl how about the other insurance, she said no need la. So, okay. Also no need the passenger list, not required at Betong crossing. smile.gif

- Bought also the temporary car import form from her and the white cards too. All filled up neatly by her.

- Go directly to the border post. Just a few km from pengkalan hulu. Drive through malaysian immi checkpoint, wind down windows and just show passports. smile.gif (Before that, Polis bantuan checked road tax, display on windshield, and car voc.)

- at thai immi checkpoint, park car and go through immi and chop passport.

- get back to car and drive short distance to thai custom checkpoint. Give voc and temporary import form. Thai custom will enter details into their system; will need to know color of your car which is not stated in the voc.

So, better to write it (with pencil) on the voc. At first I don't understand what the custom lady officer was asking, and she has to hold up a big card "CAR COLOR". hahaha 🤣

- you will get back a copy of the temporary import form which you must hand over when coming back home. This to show/inform that the car is out of siamland.

- reached Betong, still quite early at about 10am thai time. Find hotel and checked in. Breakfast and drive to the hills, about 30 minutes away, where all the major attractions are. The communist tunnels and flower garden.

Kedah Immigration Dept: Over 80,000 Malaysians thronged Thailand since Friday

ALOR SETAR, Dec 19 — More than 80,000 Malaysian tourists have taken advantage of the current school holidays to travel to Thailand via the two national border crossings since Friday (December 15).

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/202...e-friday/108324

He said the Immigration Department is always ready to handle travellers passing through the country’s border gates by opening four to six vehicle counters depending on the traffic situation. 👍

Hat Yai flood crisis: 4,000 Malaysians affected but safe, as local authorities and consulate rally to provide aid

SONGKHLA, Nov 23 — About 4,000 Malaysians in Hat Yai and nearby areas have been affected by the ongoing floods, but all are reported to be safe, according to Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry said that as of Saturday afternoon, most of the affected individuals were staying in multi-storey hotels, although some were experiencing temporary electricity outages and reduced access to food due to localised disruptions.

“Most Malaysian tourists are stranded in Hat Yai city, and many have reached out for help, particularly for food and baby formula, as they are unable to move due to the high floodwaters,” he said. — Bernama

But Malaysia now receives more foreign tourists than Thailand . A feat of its own .

Thailand foreign tourists until Nov 2025 - 28.28 mil

Malaysia - 28 mil until august 2025

Although per tourist spending we lose surely coz singaporeans Indons that visit us spend fewer days compared to horny westerners/ indians who spend weeks there

Thai airport tax to rise 53% for international flights

The Civil Aviation Board has approved a 53% increase in the passenger service charge, commonly known as the airport tax, for outbound passengers on international flights.

The board on Wednesday approved an application by Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) to raise the charge for international flights from 730 baht to 1,120 baht, said Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn who chaired the meeting.

The passenger service charge is included in the price of airport tickets at the time of purchase. It is expected to take effect early next year.

(Suvarnabhumi airport is one of six major airports operated by Airports of Thailand, with about 35 million international passengers a year passing through them in total.)
