Tesla Model Y Malaysia: Customers to receive a free Wall Connector

Tesla Model Y customers in Malaysia will be provided with a free Wall Connector. This was confirmed through our conversation with Tesla Malaysia’s hotline.

As odd as this might sound, this free Wall Connector perk is something that was not mentioned on Tesla Malaysia’s website. We actually first heard of it through a post on Malaysia Electric Vehicle Owners Club (MyEVOC) Facebook group.

According to Tesla Malaysia’s customer service agent that we spoke to over the phone, Tesla’s delivery team will first determine if the customer’s home or premise can support the Wall Connector when they come to hand over the Model Y to the customer.

The Wall Connector that Tesla Malaysia will provide is able to deliver AC charging of up to 11kW depending on the electrical system of the customer’s home or premise. Specifically, it needs to have a three-phase power supply system to achieve 11kW while a one-phase system will limit the power output to 7.4kW and below.

According to the support page on Tesla Australia’s website, the Wall Connector can provide up to 75km of driving range per hour. So, you can easily get a full charge from zero with overnight charging.

While the Wall Connector will be provided for free, customers still have to pay for the installation fee. The customer service agent did not reveal the actual installation fee to us but based on information from several installers such as Carput, EVGuru, and MyEV Mart, the current market rate is around RM1,200 to RM1,800.

The agent did not reveal the retail price for the Wall Connector as well. If you need a price reference though, the Wall Connector is currently being sold through Tesla Singapore’s online store for SGD790 (~RM2,708.)

As noted earlier, you are now able to book a Tesla Model Y in Malaysia by paying a non-refundable order fee of RM1,000 through Tesla’s website. Available in three different variants, the starting price of the base Rear-Wheel Drive model is RM199,000.

However, the actual price that you need to pay is RM200,700 once you include related fees such as delivery & administration, and number plate. The RM1,000 order fee that you have paid during the booking process is included in the final price. On the booking checkout page, it is mentioned that the price excludes taxes and other fees.

Definitely need to change to 3 phase with proper design for the max demand. Will add not only installation cost for the charger but also this conversion. Condo already 3 phase wonder how they will allow it or not. Maybe put individual meter or subscribe to those pay to use service.

What the fark is this "excludes taxes" ? That's mean we still got to pay the excise tax, import tax, etc ontop that RM199k ?

Why 5 years? After 5 years, EVs will require less electricity per full charge? Or TNB will lower tariffs?
Or your house wiring will become stronker, hence won't melt?

Got 2 choice. Either single phase like those old house or upgrade to 3phase.

Single phase max charge is 7.4kw. That is enough if you put in to overnight charge. 8hr x 7.4kw=59kwh.

Model Y battery size range is 67.6–81 kWh.

after years ...what they do now is just increasing charging wattage ; bigger battery to maintain your usage ; gaining power efficiency thru processing node only

The installation fee can be claim for individual income tax relief up to RM2500.

With the current structure should be RM1959 for RWD and RM5391 for AWD, if the motor output figures are true.

Single phase can do 7kW. Overnight charging can give you full tank

You need to apply TNB for 3phase and appointment to modify. Also get quote from electrician to tarik wire.

Yes. Wall box or wall connectors require 3 phase wiring. If you charge with your regular charger using single phase wiring sytem, it would take ages to charge.

see how many amps rewuired lor. and then upgrade accordingly. different mcb block, thicker wires, 3phase power, etc. (ayam dont actually follow Tesla dont quote ayam on what to do)

remember that this push to reduce ICE on the road is to comply with international peer pressure as well

it's not for Malaysia cronies to find ways to profiteer and withhold adoption rates, as there is a dateline set for every country to achieve their carbon neutrality targets.

For reference, on a 10A plug in a base model, it charges at a rate of about 15km/hour or 10%/3 hours.
