Results stand, Kimi keeps title

FIA won't punish Williams and BMW for fuel irregularities, meaning Kimi Raikkonen stays as champion.

Kimi Raikkonen will remain the 2007 Formula 1 Drivers' Champion after the FIA decided not to penalise Williams and
BMW for having irregular fuel in their tanks in the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Raikkonen's title had been thrown in doubt just hours after the race at Interlagos when it was revealed that both Williams and BMW were being investigated for having fuel that was too cool, something that could have potentially given them a power advantage.

Should they have received a penalty or disqualification, Lewis Hamilton would move up to fourth place and would herefore be crowned 2007 Champion.

However, no action has been taken which means the results will stand as they are with Nico Rosberg fourth, Robert Kubica fifth and Nick Heidfeld sixth, while Raikkonen will be confirmed as the new World Champion.

Raikkonen title not quite his - yet.

Ferari's Finn to be kept waiting by McLaren appeal.

Kimi Raikkonen may have to wait a short while until his Formula One world title can be officially confirmed after McLaren announced that it would appeal against the decision not to penalise Williams and BMW Sauber for alleged fuel irregularities.

Raikkonen was confirmed as champion twice on Sunday, once in the initial results and again after the questionable fuel samples were checked and declared by the stewards not to contravene regulations 'enough' to warrant punishment. Both teams had been deemed to have fuel that was 'too cool', potentially providing a power boost.

However, perhaps fittingly in a season riddled with controversy and back-biting between the two leading teams, McLaren has announced that it would appeal the decision. Exclusion or demotion for Nico Rosberg, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld would promoteLewis Hamilton from his original seventh place, handing him the title.

Schumacher applauds Raikkonen's win

Seven times world champion Michael Schumacher has congratulated Kimi Raikkonen for winning the world championship for Ferrari on Sunday with a stirring fight to the wire.

"What an incredible finale, what a thrilling finish!" the former Ferrari driver said in a statement on his Web site (www.michael-schumacher.de) after Raikkonen and Felipe Massa took the first two spots for Ferrari to clinch the championship.

It was a remarkable comeback by the Finn, who had trailed Britain's Lewis Hamilton by 17 points with two races to go.

However, Raikkonen earned 20 points and overtook both Hamilton and McLaren team mate Fernando Alonso to win the championship by a single point.

"I was so, so happy to see Kimi and Felipe leading the way across the finish line," said Schumacher, who was team mates with Massa last season.

McLaren appeal verdict confirmed.

McLaren appeal fails; Kimi Raikkonen keeps title.

he FIA's International Court of Appeal has rejected McLaren's appeal against the decision not to disqualify the BMW-Sauber and Williams' cars from last month's Brazilian Grand Prix.

The decision means that Kimi Raikkonen has won the 2007 Formula 1 drivers' title, as Lewis Hamilton remains seventh overall in the Brazilian GP race classification and does not move up to gain the additional points needed to overhaul him.

A statement released by the FIA late on Thursday said that the appeal lodged by McLaren was 'inadmissible'.

The full release from the FIA read:

"The FIA International Court of Appeal met in London on Thursday, November 15, 2007, to examine an appeal lodged by the Motor Sports Association (MSA) on behalf of its licence-holder Vodafone McLaren Mercedes against the decision (document 41) of the Panel of the Stewards of the 2007 Brazilian Grand Prix dated 21 October 2007 and counting towards the 2007 FIA Formula One World Championship.

"Following a report from the Technical Delegate indicating that the temperature of fuel pumped into the cars #9 - Nick Heidfeld, #10 - Robert Kubica, #16 - Nico Rosberg and #17 - Kazuki Nakajima, was more than 10 degrees centigrade below ambient temperature, the Stewards of the Meeting met to consider whether a penalty should be imposed.

"Having heard the evidence they decided not to impose a penalty as they had sufficient doubt as to both the temperature of the fuel on board the car and to the true ambient temperature.

"Having heard the explanations of both parties and having examined the various documents and other evidence, the Court decided that the appeal lodged by Vodaphone McLaren Mercedes is inadmissible.

"The International Court of Appeal was presided over by Mr Jan Stovicek (Czech Republic), elected President, and composed of Mr John Cassidy (United States), Mr Vassilis Koussis (Greece) and Mr José Macedo e Cunha (Portugal)."

I don't think Kovailanen is faster though...if againts Alonso in a McLaren  tongue.gif
But maybe he is when both of them were in a Renault.

Double world champion like this ka?  doh.gif
Double world champion should have this kind of attitude...the 'just bring it' attitude.
Woot...Nelsinho faster than Alonso him in 2008  laugh.gif
Fresh new headache for Alonso.
We get to see new circus act by him in 2008  thumbup.gif

I have an idea for Alonso...which ever teams he drove, he'll be the sole driver in it  laugh.gif
Then no need to whine about any team mate faster than him etc.  whistling.gif
