QUOTE(PearlyLPU @ Jan 9 2008, 12:21 AM)
He's not strong, he simply was lucky to be able to pilot the MP4-22 which was an extremely fast car[albeit the spygate]. brows.gif  Place Rosberg/Kovalainen in his position in 2007, I'm sure they'll be able to achieve the same feats. It's not going to be easy for Heikki either. Hamilton's the first black driver at F1[and a rookie at it], his marketability is extremely high, think of the rappers and the money, sponsorships they are attracting. Not just in F1, but in other sports too.  [No racial issue and discrimination intended here] Plus he's a British driving for a British team, how more valuable is that? If Lewis becomes World Champion, he'll be the first black mixed race[or Hawaii descent that he claims] to ever do so. He'll be setting lots of records along the way. Speaking in a logical way one can only imagine the sponsorship he'll receive armed with those charming, innocent, gullible tone from a rookie.

"In 1998 Dennis delivered on his promise and signed Hamilton to the McLaren driver development program"
At age ten, he approached McLaren F1 team boss Ron Dennis for an autograph, and told him, "Hi. I'm Lewis Hamilton. I won the British Championship and one day I want to be racing your cars." Dennis wrote in his autograph book, "Phone me in nine years, we'll sort something out then."

I'm sure you can find more quotes to describe his close relationship with the team principal in his book. During early races with Fernando Alonso, he started showing the potential[luck? rolleyes.gif ] that he was able to do just as well. What not, you as the team principal had been paying this young rookie under your development program and now you're not going to use it to your advantage? To think of it, he may be the 'thing' that you need to attract a broader range of audience, ie showing that even someone who's not a Caucasian can be successful. I'm reminded of a program/advertisement Thierry Henry did for Nike few years ago, 'Stop Discrimination In Football'.

Sigh, I think I'll get banned from bringing up racial issues here, but it's just an example. Sorry if it sincerely hurts anyone. sweat.gif  notworthy.gif  It's the same case as if... you're a Malaysian running a company, would you rather employ and give advantages to your countrymen or outsiders?[not talking about costs to employ]

Aha, Alonso fan spotted. Kill me. sweat.gif

*edit* I'm just referring that in a way or another there is some sort of favouritism in the team regardless their claim of equality. No discussion about talents here.
*
LOL, then Schumi is an extremely lucky guy winnning seven championship then rolleyes.gif i think you should watch GP2 06 season rolleyes.gif

imho Ron sees something special in Lewis, putting him in the race seat instead of Paffet (already a DTM champion) and De La Rosa (experienced test driver in the team) ; same way as ron signed kimi instead of nick - nick was under the Mercedes young driver program and had tested McLaren cars before.

yeah alonso wants equality in the team rolleyes.gif he wants his team mate to move over at Indy just like what he demanded to renault team to let him pass fisi at montreal 06 rolleyes.gif and he wants special brake pads for his car rolleyes.gif and how he vetoed against having heikki as fisi and his team mate this season rolleyes.gif

Give the guy credit lar, its not all luck lar. I dont like Schumi either, but i can understand why he's so successful. he's a workaholic (he spend 12 hours at Ferrari HQ everyday during off-season) and a perfectionist ( he still setting his brake diff during his qualy lap at Bahrain 06).

dang! this year all the formula 1 cars will be running on the same ECU controller jointly produced by MCLAREN and microsoft.
wouldn't it be nice if bernie listen to another offer somewhere else rather than those from participating team.
maybe he just wanted to make a pact with mclaren mercedes.
but this is clearly an advantage to mclaren mercedes team.
*
LOL ! few company took part in the bidding and in the end MES won the bid.

What is it that McLaren gain by this standard ECU? hmm.gif

The only difference that i can spot so far is the new barge board and no more little wings (in between front suspension and the cockpit). Ron said the car will evolve thru-out the season.

mercedes should be in position the reap the most benefit since their cars are tuned by none other than the famed mclaren.
but remember those heavily unreliable mercedes cars back then? mclaren does shoulder part of the blames for their unreliable ecu.
with some ferrari inputs, things turn good for them in 2007 whistling.gif
could be 2008 honda car has the ferrari 2006 traces' in it since rb already joined 'em hmm.gif
*
LOL! i think you are the 1st person in the world claiming that!

and now you're talking bout Mercedes road cars or McLarens F1 cars?

so let say that you are right ; McLaren used Ferrari info to alter their ECU system.... then it shouldnt be a problem for Ferrari right? because its their info after all ! tongue.gif

i dont get it why the todt brought this up now since the tender was open in 2006 and awarded in 2006.

you should google which other company that entered FIA's tender process whistling.gif whistling.gif

LOLz.... you don't even get me  doh.gif
common sense la bro.... mclaren never produced their own engine, their F1 cars are powered by mercedes engine with mclaren ECU.
i never mentioned that mclaren used ferrari info(contents) to alter their ECU. mclaren don't need the info, it's the way the ECU built / design that they may need. before this, their ECU design may not as reliable. hence they can be partly blamed for the frequent engine break down on those usually reliable mercedes engines.
mclaren@mcrobber or whatever we called 'em could use the ferrari engines structures, ratios, and brake distribution and implement it on their own cars. and perhaps taking advantage of the reliable magnet marelli electronics system in ferrari.
else how can they be suddenly so competitive last year? and the 100 million speak for itself  whistling.gif
i based my posting of facts, bro. in fact mclaren actually come out with the cheapest and most viable option, hence, they won the tender.

as we already know, certain amount of times / money are required for the engines to works well and adapt to new ECU. it wasn't a straight plug and play. nah, wouldn't this be already an advantage on mclaren mercedes team?
FIA better test every ECU supplied to other participating team to avoid double standard. icon_rolleyes.gif
*
I LOL again !

Do you honestly think that McLaren can copy paste Ferrari info just like that ? doh.gif doh.gif This is Formula One and its not one single make car competition (same chasis same engine).

Engine structures????? 1st you post that Mercedes built all the McLaren engine. and you post :

QUOTE
we called 'em could use the ferrari engines structures

so now Mercedes engine design is based on Ferrari engine? wow!

ratios? what ratios are you talking about? gear ratio? suspension? differentials?

McLaren fined 100 million for possessing Ferrari's document If McLaren has been found guilty of incorporating Ferraris data on their car, they will be excluded from 2007 and 2008 championship. Didnt you read WMSC verdict?

and in my original post :

QUOTE
What is it that McLaren gain by this standard ECU?

2 second on track? McLaren will win all races this year? don't be so paranoid lar bro...

QUOTE
else how can they be suddenly so competitive last year?

McLaren 05 car nearly won the championship lar bro...

Added on January 11, 2008, 4:23 pmSo dont worry bout Ferrari will lost their edge because using MES ECU. MES is not set up overnight just to bid for FIA tender :

QUOTE
McLaren Electronic Systems make electronic control systems for motorsport. We have been supplying control and data acquisition systems to the motorsport industry for over 15 years, selling to teams and engine makers in Formula One, World Rally Car, IRL, MotoGP, NASCAR, Le Mans and other professional motorsport categories.

F1 teams have been testing the SECU since last year and each team has been in contact with MES and FIA.

Added on January 11, 2008, 6:51 pmto add a few more thots (sorry long rant tongue.gif)

Each new FIA decision will always benefit one side...

2004 : Ferrari and Bridgestone completely dominated F1
2005 : FIA intoduced no tyre change rule. this favor the Michelin runners as Ferrari & Bridgestone suffer graining problem.
2006 : FIA revert back the rule of tyre changing
2007 : Single tyre supplier rule by FIA. Favor ferrari and Ferrari is the only team who has full time Bridgestone engineer working exclusively with Ferrari.
2008 : Single SECU - favors McLaren.

Once again, imho Ferrari will not suffer much. Ferarri engineers are not idiot. imho they will rise to the challenge.

sorry if my post bore you and hurt your feelings smile.gif

well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. we have to respect others for that. if you want to be respected, you have to respect others as well. that was fundamental.
and are you saying that my opinion was not based on info and facts?
when i mentioned about the ecu design, it was wasn't about the content, it's about the ecu structures itself. but someone still talk about copy and paste. when i mentioned about ratios, we, in this forum should know what was ratio all about in cars.
we're all big enough to differentiate. as long was the discussion was not overly biased, should be fine  smile.gif
everyone did their research before posting. but some people just couldn't stop arguing even on the right fact  doh.gif  laugh.gif

btw, am a fan of the legendary senna and micheal schumacher.  not really into ferrari. i accepted the fact with open mind when renault beat 'em to the title in the past.
still looking for the next favourite drive but it definitely wasn't alonso or hamilton  laugh.gif

well i was about to post another post on this, but i edited it.

friend in F1 there's a lot of ratio : are you talking weight ratio, lateral weight ratio, gear ratio, differentials... you need to be specific what ratio you are talking about.

actually i felt insulted when you post that i dont google for facts. sweat.gif sweat.gif

and tell us, o mighty yngwie what is :
