WD40 is just a brand, got many other brand.

You need to open the plastic case of the switch then spray the metal at its contact point

Contact cleaner is safe, you can read what it is use for.

Go buy a contact cleaner from Mr DIY. 9-10 bucks.

Open the mouse and spray the contact cleaner on the switches and wait 5 minutes before assembling it back.

It successful, it will work like normal. If the switches already work out, u can try to desolder the old switches and order some new ones and solder it back.

Nowadays even branded mouse all using low quality switches so 2 years is about just right for replacement.

I have tried to upgrade the switches for my Logitech gaming mouse once. Not difficult just need patience. Good quality switches can be purchased online for 3-4 bucks a piece.

Normal for new gen Logitech mouse
Unlike their old gen. My 15 year old MX518 is still functioning well until today

Whereas my M331, G300S, G502 Hero all lasted less than 2 years

Hence why I moved to ASUS gaming peripherals. Their mouse has easy to replace switches. If the switches is broken, I just have to replace it by plug & play, no soldering needed

Yeah
Similar functions is too vague, be more specific about what functions, perhaps other members has better recommendations

Normally i will have broken mouse around.
I will just open the mouse click cap, and replace the contact metal plate inside (due to wear out).

Some people do suggest re-solder the whole mouse click module, but seems too hassle for me.

Most mouse these days are like that. Once the switches wear out, you replace whole mouse. Sometimes replacing just a single switch does not look economical if you factor in needing to buy solder equipment if you do not have any.

If you look carefully at the Microswitch, there are clips at both end which allow you to open up the casing without damaging the switch.

Inside, there is one piece metal spring with the contact at one end.

Do not remove the spring, it is extremely difficult to replace it.

Look carefully, one end of the spring is the contact point.

Place a piece of paper in between, gently press the spring and then rub with the paper.

After cleaning, can easily last for another year.

Make sure you have good eyesight, a magnifying glass is more costly than a soldering iron.

MX518 was legendary. Mine started having random intermittent issues after about 12 years. Searched far and wide for a replacement, but I didn't find anything in the Logitech line up that I liked. Currently using Apple Magic Trackpad lol.

What Asus mouse are you using now?
