I just thought I would like to highlight to everyone here from my experience, those suffering from depression or any mental illness are not eligible for health insurance.

I have had medical insurance covered for 150K since I was in my 20s and recently in my 40s I decided to upgrade that to 1 mil (the monthly commitment is not very much from what I am paying now).

Since I got diagnosed with depression and anxiety in my mid 30s, and I when I applied for the 1 mil coverage, they said not eligible because according to them, depression can lead to cancer and other diseases. However this will still honor my 150K insurance.

Have tried with various insurance carriers and all have turned me down.

So for those who are afflicted with mental health problems and have yet to seek professional help, I suggest you apply soon. The insurance wont cover the bills for a physiatrist, but its for other health problems that might come your way.

Also if that wasn't bad enough, I am not eligible for life insurance as well.

If any of my fellows forumers here have had success I would like to hear about it and how did you got about doing it.

I knew that, which is why when I know I have depression, I didn't go seek professional help because of this, still digging myself out of the hole.

yeah this is exactly happened to my aunt... who had brain cancer... and they die die also link it to a fall many decade ago and did not want to honour the pay out... she died becoz used up all her savings...

Insurance companies are darn open to ask for signing up but when paying... they will deny all they can for a payout...

History of psychiatric illness is one of the first question they ask you during medical check up for insurance purpose.

If one already got the insurance, then some time later(not too soon) developed mental illness & got diagnosed, it's still likely they will honour the claim. Bcos u got the illness after u declare.

Better not, cause insurance companies do their due diligence by checking with hospitals, they will find out. That's what my agent told me.

Unless it's proven by medical professionals, chances are quite low to get a medical insurance.

I think it's more towards self-harm which therefore increases the risk of injuries / claims caused by the mental problem.

But fret not, there are still insurance that you can buy to cover yourself. If you can accept a higher loading as well, they can actually grant you a medical plan.

I just found out 2 days ago, Great Easter might take on my case, but I have to submit a doctor's letter and full medical checkup (which lucky enough I did last month), once I submit then they will decide.

But I am sure my premium will be higher, with prudential a 1mil cover would cost RM548 a month, I wonder how much added premium I would need to pay. Will update this thread on the out come so all those in need may have a chance of getting one if it happens
