When open up to read sms, suddenly pop up prompt to update newer version, is it normal? Have option to update to 13.xxx version or cancel.
I just pressed cancel.
After that, search in google account for app update list, can't find any update for the pre-installed messages app.

How to update? or just ignore the update?

Xiaomi has system app update separately in the settings for some of it's MIUI apps.

Not sure for Oppo, does it have one? If not sure, you need to look at the settings.

Opened the pre-installed sms messages app, can see the current version, but no update button.

The update prompt appear suddenly itself last time when first open sms message, but after second time, the update prompt doesn't appear despite open and close the messages app several time.

Last time suddenly pop up, so don't know what it is, scare or viruses so didn't install.
Is such prompt to update legitimate?
First time encounter that pre-installed factory sms messages app needs for update.

Third party messages app installed from playstore, then I understand have update from time to time, but ancient pre-installed messages app?
