I am gathering information about Lecturers salaries in Malaysia. With PhD. Regardless from which institution.

I am referring to STARTING salary.

Please vote, especially if you are a Lecturer.

13 years ago, I remember the offer was about 5.5k before allowance for govt unis and UTAR level unis. Those foreign unis with campuses in Malaysia offer more.

May i know the foreign unis offer? Got 7k?

That sucks. Weird policy. Must be crafted by those who never worked in industry.

That's how academia works. It has been always like this.

It's just that industry people cannot accept it because they think industry is the real thing and it's simply unacceptable for lecturers have no industry experience and go teach.

The fact is, teaching is teaching, industry is industry. Different things. Industry experience won't help you teach better at university. You will just have a lot of stories to share to students only. Your 20 years industry experience won't help your students to score better at exams.

Teaching experience is much more important than industry experience for academic positions.

How come it's per hourly based salary?

Lecturer permanent position should be monthly based salary
