I have an ex-student who has applied for multiple places and got called for interviews like about 10s of times.

There was this company who called him back after 2 months from his last interview with the Hiring Manager and HR.

I find it a bit weird. He asked them why the delay and since he has found a job, he may want to stay put there.

The HR there explained that the process is taking longer and bla bla bla.

What do you guys think could be the real cause for such delay?

Not a recruiter but in my opinion... i think that hr missed reading the email sent by the student. One day, scrolling across old email and happened to see it and thus contacted your student 😅 But anyhow, as a person that's looking for a job knows that best not to wait a company to reply. First come first server unless they gave uncommon rewarding benefits and salary

alot of potential reasons..
1. resources got frozen
2. ideal candidate rejected last minute
3. got extra resources to hire
4. HR ran into backlogs
5. hiring manager been very thorough in their screenings
6. too many candidates to drill thru

Many reasons that are possible.

1) Hiring started and freeze, and then restarted
2) Initial offer to ideal candidate rejected
3) Ideal candidate accepted job, joined and resigned shortly
4) Interview and hiring process is just too lengthy for big companies
5) Indecisiveness from HR or hiring manager

Easiest is to just ask the HR and they will usually the truth.
Or you can just accept the "story" they tell you if the job is a good one and you are interested, and the company offers good benefits pay etc.

Don't think too much into it

No need to think too much about it. Like above said, many reasons.... Seriously just go if you want and hear them out.

The candidate that successful went into the position suddenly resigned from the job after 1 month or 2...

So HR lazy to do jobs ads... easy way out... go dig back all the old application & ask if still want the job 😁
