i have no idea at all without looking at it physically and feel what its like for number 1, looks like those useless sinks that prioritize cosmetics over functionality.

number 2, it maybe a mesh filter to supposedly filter out impurities, but if your house has debris/ impurities in the pipelines that big, the plumbing is screwed, thats the inlet to refill your toilet tank after the flush, i don't think you need to do anything but do monitor if the water pressure gets low means you need to open it up to clean

update, come to think of it, maybe number 2 is an adapter to connect between the toilet tank and the water pipe
