Recently I've had an interview with another company. The interview and everything went really well and after a week, their HR's HOD called me saying they are ready to offer me the position with the salary package we've discussed previously. However, there's one issue - the background check is taking a little bit longer than usual due to this one company I joined a few years ago. It's not the O&G company as I've previously mentioned before. That one was pretty cooperative to my relief.

There's this agency that went bankrupted that I worked for years ago, that's why I was one of the staff that got laid off. I have specifically stated in my resume that I left that company because they were bankrupted. So this new company that offered me a position said "As proof we will need you to provide us with any employment letters, EA forms, salary slips, etc., that were in your name from this company." Fair enough, I provide them with the EA form and the salary slips, which I came to realize were stated as "payment vouchers". It's so vague I came to a self-realization that HR may not accept it as official salary slips. They went on to say they will continue to attempt to contact that bankrupted company to verify my tenure with them.

My question now though - what happens if they cannot verify my tenure with this bankrupted company? Will they retract the offer? Even if they cannot reach out to the company, does that mean my time working at this bankrupted company has been a waste? I tried to contact back my ex-boss from that bankrupted company and his responses were either half-assed or he sounded like he gave up.

Need insights on this.

If new company think that is a red flag in terms that you have been falsely declaring your past, confirm will be retracted.
Nobody wants to hire a person with a fake resume.
Just provide as many evidence as possible because if they can’t verify perhaps your overwhelming support might win them over.

I understand that hence that's why I'm actually really ticked off mostly at my ex company. They die die just want to see that employment matter but according to my ex boss they "don't keep record for anything more than 3yrs ago".

I've sent them the EA form and salary slips aka "payment vouchers" and contact details of my ex boss. Not sure if these are sufficient enough documents but I hope it is..

The salary my previous company offered isn't even market level tbh. New company I applied for the salary is regular market price.

I just don't understand why they are so fixated with the bankrupted company. I can see they have been trying to contact the company multiple times but couldn't. My ex bosses and managers are the absolute worst everyone hates them.

If the new company wants you , don't think it will be a big issue. Just provide all supporting documents. people can go jobless 2 years or do gig jobs .. nothing wrong.

If its not ur current/latest company it doesnt even matter to them. Sounds weird this new company. Better avoid them.

Btw background check usually check financial and criminal records not related to previous company.

Sounds like you are interviewing for a bank, usually they require the full checks before approving the hiring.

I don't have any criminal records though. I'm just beefed at the fact that they are so insistent on wanting to see some kind of proof of employment with this company. Aren't the EA form and salary slips sufficient enough lol what can a bankrupted company do??

What if the bankrupted company does not respond? Because its been so many years before covid. Shouldn't the EA form and salary slips be sufficient enough to proof I worked there?

A bankrupted company might not even exist anymore. When ex bosses or colleagues bring called, they can simply say whatever bad things they can.
Nothing to lose for them since it's a bankrupted company.
Besides bankrupted company, did u join any other company?

You can negotiate with the bank to have a declaration on that together with your proof and then you need to get the declaration stamped at the Commissioner of Oaths. That is one way if the bank accepts that.

Hi, joined this conversation late. Do you still have pdf copies of your old bank statements? You can use those to match the payment slips and prove to your new company. It might help.

Good luck

Excellent. I am of the opinion that it would help bolster your proof. Good luck!
