Contrary to rigid seniority system in Japanese companies, salary increments do not scale as high as other Asian countries where as you climb the management your salary can increase exponentially with the responsibility you take.
Just like nepotism and cronyism in many other rising Asian countries the salary of a manager level compared to a non exec has a very big gap (2:27)
Thai and Chinese companies now are willing to pay higher salaries than their Japanese counterparts based on a meritocracy system instead of a seniority system.
Also in Japan where top management such as CEOs view other regular lower rank employees just as important to themselves pays a fair salary system which has lesser gap between both levels. Their CEOs also take public transport to work and freely mingle with public compared to corrupted countries which helangs separate themselves from the B40s.
More and more skilled Japanese professionals are now seeking jobs in China than last decade.
