As far as i know, Lecturer with PhD starting salary should be 4k - 7k. Depends on which institution.

i know there can be higher salary. But im not from there. And malaysia got many other places.

My point of view include all places, even rural areas like sarawak pahang etc and any other places that have lower cost living

if i go kl there work salary higher but living cost also higher. no use.

From my point of view, i think the answer is yes and no.

Sarawak is a big state. Got many cities in there. Each city has different living costs.

For example, in Kapit, the economy rice can cost a lot. I'm not sure about the current price. But in the past, when i went there, the economy rice can be RM9 (2 vegies, 1 meat).

However, in other places like Sibu and Sarikei, the economy rice just cost RM3.5 (2 vegies, 1 meat). The price is outdated now. But since I compare with Kapit's outdated price, so, i use outdated Sibu and Sarikei price.

Do bear in mind that right now in 2023, in Sibu and Sarikei, it's no longer RM3.5. The price has risen.

Miri also has higher living costs than Sibu and Sarikei.

Sabah like KK has higher living costs too.

So, it really depends on the location. There is no definite answer that says yes or no.

But it's just klang valley. There are more people outside KV than people inside KV. So, it's still minority.

Btw, the living cost there is high.

So, while it may be true that KV people are earning more than 10k (i said it may be true, because i havent seen anyone earning more than 10k in real life yet), the living cost is high.

So, i would say that, earning 10k salary in KV is like earning 3k in a rural area?

5k should be relativity. 5k in KL is not rich. But 5k in rural area in Sarawak is a very respectable amount, where your degree holder peers are just earning 1.8k an month in that area. Some also just 2.5k, max is 3k.

Location is very important i think. i tell you, 5k is really a huge salary in some places. Do you know how many degree holders in some places just earning 1.8k-2.5k a month? and they are not fresh grad. They have experience already. It's not stupid jobs. It's engineering, accountant etc

So, if you earn 5k - 7k in that area, you are really looked high upon and many people will jealous you.

Let me surprise you with a fact. More than 5 years ago (before min gaji RM1.2k was announced), my friend fresh grad become accountant. Salary just RM900/month. Full time. Sarawak.

Another fact. Chemical engineering degree from USM. Go sarawak work, only RM1800/month.

My own experience? I went to sarawak work with my electrical engineering degree. My salary was RM2100. And my salary was higher than some of my colleagues. Enough to use or not? No. I managed to survive 2 years and found better job

when i join /k, i realized /k have so many rich people. Me in real life, hard to find such people with high salary like /k in real life.

made me wonder how /k people are so successful. Last time my branch manager just earn RM3k-RM4k.

i need statistics for this. how common is it. 10k is a huge amount. If KL, i would believe it maybe, since i never work at KL before, but i did hear people say KL salary higher, but living cost higher.

If you say age is almost retire, and he work government job, yearly increment salary RM200, then i will believe his salary probably around 9k 10k la...

Sabah is pretty high. Yes. I've been there too. Sabah quite expensive
