Saw this guy tendered his resignation, then boss tried to counter offer him he said its either promotion or he will leave because he already got another job offer question is this: 1- I wonder how he did it. Did he signed contract with the other co, then current co counter offered him. Ok, let say if he decided to stay with the promotion offer, how does he escape with the new co if he had already signed contract? new co can sue him in lieu of 2 months pay? in accordance to their notice period? 2- Or he could have told the new co offered him, to wait, let him decide, then he decided to tender resignation. Risky game, because its a game of who chicken first, he or the current employer. but he knows what he is doing because he is now handling a lot of big projects and the current boss don't want to take the risk of losing him. |

Have a few friends who climbed up the paygrade/scale quite fast using this method. |

QUOTE(mezanny @ Jun 25 2023, 06:45 PM) Company is between a rock and a hard place, screwed up. Company may give in to the demand for now, but the boss would remember this. No company like to be put on ransom, thus Plan B would be initiate to counter this if it happens again in future. |

QUOTE(mezanny @ Jun 25 2023, 02:50 PM) Saw this guy tendered his resignation, then boss tried to counter offer him I used option 2 twice with the same employer. First time, they countered offer. Second time, they said bye byehe said its either promotion or he will leave because he already got another job offer question is this: 1- I wonder how he did it. Did he signed contract with the other co, then current co counter offered him. QUOTE(BS8110 @ Jun 27 2023, 12:29 PM) Company is between a rock and a hard place, screwed up. When company wanna retrench people, they only show you the exit. No hard feelings. Company may give in to the demand for now, but the boss would remember this. No company like to be put on ransom, thus Plan B would be initiate to counter this if it happens again in future. At the end of the day, work is work. Salary is the exchange of a person's resource (time, knowledge, energy, experience blablabla). Not everyone can pull that card. Basically the guy is asking for his pay to be adjusted because if he can secure the offer from another company with higher pay - that means there's a certain value to his skills in the market and the current office COULD pay higher for it. Its a win-win for the guy. |

QUOTE(ZZMsia @ Jun 28 2023, 09:03 AM) Diverting a little - Grab is another one that's tricky. Managing a big fleet of riders/ drivers is slightly different. Grab iinm gave really good incentive starting out - to pull people in - but this gradually decreases over time as the service goes through ups and downs. Managing human resource/ people is one of the toughest job and basically everywhere in the job market especially retail is having issues hiring people at the shop. QUOTE(otai_g @ Jun 28 2023, 09:10 AM) You can say that |

QUOTE(ZZMsia @ Jun 28 2023, 10:24 AM) It's the market conditions, layoffs aren't usually the norm but lately it has been. It affected a lot of those in the tech companies (big ones like Meta, Microsoft, Google, Amazon) as well as companies such as Shopee, Grab, Carsome. I had a couple of friends and colleagues who got laid off but thankfully they found their feet again and got other roles. Industries which had a tough time trying to hire good talent managed to get these talented folks which helps them overall. |
