You are the banks and you serve your customers not the customers serve you.

How about you create a app version of your secure tokens? Just with that function nothing else? I would be happy to use the website version of the bank portal on my PC.

But how am I going to get my secure OTP/OTC now when your app don't even work at all during the weekends?

Buy phone cheap. But can you confirm the app will run on phone without SIM card with only Wi-Fi? If it doesn't, thats another RM360 annually on top of phone price.

I'm considering to move my accounts to other banks now due to the bank's inconsiderate move of abandoning their customers trust and inconveniencing them.

They're going to lose many faithful customers after this.

I'm not blaming others, it outright unnecessary and unthoughtful of the banks to catch their customers by surprise.

I agree with TS in this case. Luckily mine is still Android 10. If not I also will be damn pissed if I cannot transact out of a sudden. Checked on my email, there's no mentioning of this android version rule sent. Probably caused I am just a CC customer.

This SecureSign already existed for sometime and worked for older versions of the app so it's no excuse to disable it by surprising your users.

I've suggested earlier that you can make a Lite version of the app with a soft based token generator but with all the important risky functions of the full app disabled. That way people can still access the token/SecureSign feature while making transactions over the web browser logging into the site.

The switch from SMS TACs to SecureSign was fine but not the sudden forcing of users to adopt Android 10 above.

You can blame your customers all you want, later when they move all their funds out from your bank you don't cry mader fader. Are you going to send your bank's reputation down the sewer?

Not really. How many users actively check for the latest update number on their phone or computer? It is only when there is a problem that people check, myself included.

A better way will be to notify the user that this is the last supported version when the app updates. While the app is still functional.

e.g.
1) Last supported version android 10.
2) App detects user is running android 10 during update.
3) Notifies the user to start shopping for a phone before last supported version is increased to android 11.

You don't understand. The notification was a blanket notification for ALL users regardless of the android version they are running.

An android 8 user will receive the notification, so will an android 13 user. It places the onus on the user to check for themselves, even when the info is visible to the app via API version numbers.

This is like bulk sms notifications, most users will ignore it because, they think, it doesn't affect them.

A better way for the app developers will be to push notifications to those who WILL be affected. Do it everytime the app is started. Not a notification asking them to check for themselves if they will be affected

Please don't justify bad design. If a junior programmer showed me this I would still correct him the same way.

Too many notifications and you get complaints. But not enough and you get problems like this.

The easy solution is to annoy the heck out of the 10% of users still clinging to older versions but leave the majority alone. Show them nag screens every time they start the app.

At the end of this period, you should get the numbers down to a reasonable number 2-3% if you are lucky.

Update the app with a new notification one week before the major update goes live. Ask the 2-3% to come get the hardware token.
