So far i am content with my Tplink NX510v wifi.. My house is 2 floor terrace house, the router is on the 2nd floor, i am able to get wifi from my porch around 4 bars.. So far no dead spot around the house.. #touchwood

I won’t call it expensive. I get it around circa RM860. It’s an all in one and real 5G with Snapdragon chip inside, not some rubbish china chip. Same chip as iPhone yo! Ok end fanboy. I trust it for reliability, same as now iPhones been reliable and stable.
I gave Zyxel a chance. It’s hit or miss main tikam, waste my time. Sounds like the NX510v has better WiFi than the X50 series! X50-5G i place in my bedroom. Go in toilet, the speed slower by 1/5. lol.
Remember ya my AC86U downstairs, in upstairs toilet I still get 1/3 speed.
Shit now you all know my secret. I browse LYN when I shit.
Expensive costs RM1100 which is twice the price of Zyxel and only comes with 1x 2.5Gbps Ethernet port and also same QC SDX55 SOC.
The built quality and design also not trendy and modern got fins which makes cleaning difficult.
For the NX510v also very costly almost RM900 but doesn't come with 2.5GB Ethernet port only 1000M Ethernet ports.
Now during festive season peak hours speeds can drop below 100Mbps even with full bar signal strength.
High congestion now.
Don't do normal speedtest, the results are fake.
Try using sites which allow you to download files directly from it like OVH file download test site. Use a download manager to test with no more than 4 connections.
Gais I just got the Zyxel 3UK (well it is not ori Zyxel for sure) and there seems to be some issues. I bought from a Shopee seller with the guarantee that if not ori can refund. But anyway I don't really care much if ori, u get what u pay for and as long as it works I'm ok.
Currently testing the unit to check its capabilities with my UMobile SIM (normal postpaid cellular).
Problems:
1. Cannot lock on to 5g-NSA ONLY. Only have these options below. What is the point of the 3UK router if it auto switches and I cannot lock to pure 5G??? I have chosen B28 and N78 cos I have no choice. Is this device broken or modified or something?
4. Why are my stats so low? RSRP -54? Shouldnt it be -80? Especially considering I am right beside the tower????? Are the other stats ok?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, SIFUS!
1) No you cannot connect to 5G-SA only(N78) by itself because connecting to B28 LTE as the baseband is compulsory before you combine with it with N78(5G) so you need to also include 4G LTE for it to work. Look carefully there is NO option for 5G-NSA only but the 2nd one is 5G-SA. This has nothing to do with the modem but DNB overall setup. For now you can only choose option 1 or 3.
2) If your signal is already so strong like placing your modem next to the tower, the only cause of slowdown is CONGESTION and high density of users at your place. Many of your neighbors must be also on the 5G network connecting to the same tower as you. It's shared with limited resources.
3) Most of these units are re-conditioned the telco logo on them already is proof. But for half the price of a new set as long as it performs like new with little noticeable scratched marks why bother? You want to pay 2-3X for a virgin set?
4) RSRP -54dB is better than perfect already. It's like placing the modem next to the tower. Most people can only get -80dB
-54dB is much more stronger signal reception than -80dB it's counter closer to 0dB.

Zykel 5G modems are not recommend since it's performance is not that good, the power of this modem to pull 5G signals are not that good. It is even worse when use the built in wifi function of that modem.
Since you have purchased it, I would suggest you to disable the built the wifi and use an external router connected via ethernet cable. This helps with performance a bit.
If have a budget I would suggest getting Huawei , ZTE 5G modems. Although it cost RM1k above but good quality and performance.

I have read it from other post too, Zyxel NR5103E is not a very good modem though comes with Qualcomm chip.
My Yeacomm 5G modem is quite fast, though with Mediatek chip.
I disagree. The vendor E which installed the 5G equipment for actually Zyxel CPEs as benchmark CPE for testing the 5G network during pilot tests. You know they are not in good terms with China so the next preference is Taiwanese brand with Qualcomm SD 5G modem chipset in it.
Zyxel is very popular CPE device brand in Sweden.
As you can see here in Stockholm, the 5G modem is being tested with one of their major 5G ISP there, Tele2:
So I must say it is the MOST Compatible modem with DNB's Ericsson 5G equipment.

thanks for sharing, very profound explanation and detailed infos indeed
i too bought the zyxel nr5103e router, so far no any issue except occasionally having to restart the router to regain the internet connectivity, not sure if its YES telco problem cause i saw a few posts stating the similar issue on YES but not on Umobile
for the rest or most of the time, performance has been stable and consistently on 5g, speed hits 500-600mbps, what more to ask lol, hopefully it lasts
Yes telco problem confirmed. For the past 2 months since December 2023 every month sure 3-4 times down at least which lasted for few hours.
Had to turn off the modem for few hours then turn it back on. My 5G phones with Umobile and CelcomDiGi 5G no problem all connected to same shared 5G DNB tower in my area.
1. Maintain P38 but find a different 5G router that can bypass this. 2. Maintain P38 but use phone hotspot to continuously 5G. 3. Change to UHome 5G RM68 (< I did this and confirmed work) 4. Change to Yes Flexi RM58
Let me just tell you this.
The ISPs can also whitelist only a handful of allowed devices which they permit and ban all rogue devices which is not in their whitelist from connecting to their network.
In the case of their broadband plans, they'd only whitelist popular known modems IMEI in the market which are widely used to only gain access to their network and other rogue devices blocked to prevent usage of their home broadband 5G plans to be used in regular phones.
About Yes, they're actually the pioneer in implementing this restriction in Malaysia. 2 years ago they already did this with their RM35 Kasi Up 4G 100GB Postpaid plan meant only for phones.
I was once their victim suddenly my 4G modem speed became so slow that you could get 500kbps when all the while obtaining 10-15Mbps. Called them up and they straight told me my device wasn't in their green list.
It was actually an illegal move because nothing was said in their contract that the quota restricted plan was supposed to be for phones only. The move was controversial and arguable that since it's quota based(100GB) why did you restrict your users in placing it into any device they wanted as long as they do not bypass the volume quota?
Is it possible to lock band for the Nokia Fastmile 5G modem?
Also it uses an older SD X50 chipset and comes only with 1G ethernet ports.
Arcadyan and Zyxel models use newer SD X55 chipsets which supports future 5G-SA mode. They also come with 2.5G ethernet ports for future proofing. Both are OpenWRT based. The Zyxel one is customized OpenWRT with many of its features lock but a 3rd party firmware is in the works.
About its actual model, the only 3rd party 5G model router out there with Snapdragon SDX55 chipset and dual 2.5Gbps Ethernet port is Zyxel.
It's impossible to find it anymore on online platforms such as Shopee and Lazada. All sold out and a few handful of hoarders have since hike the price over RM800.
I read somewhere got people said try to avoid caina 5G modems because most of them are using caina chips that are not so compatible with Msia 5G network. Better get those with qualcomm chips for best compatibility
The recent new modems that are being launched by both UMobile and Yes will be using Unisoc IVY510 chipset.
Hotlink says the 60GB 4G portion boleh seluruh Malaysia. The 5G portion is Sabah only.
Umobile says Borneo pass only in Sarawak+Sabah+Labuan. Any place outside these 3, only 10GB only.
The thing is some of the online sellers are registering your IC details in Sabah for the SIM they send to you for activation using their dealer system which doesn't require face recognition as additional step except your IC image.
Special offer will appear after a few days in your app after your IC has been registered.
Then when you purchase it, the quota will reflect 1TB/2TB for 5G.
If use in Malaysia, your 5G usage will still deduct directly from the 5G meter right?

Hence telco H recently changed the usage policy for Sabah pass to only 4G outside Sabah (according to their FAQ). But RM18 (after rebate RM2) is still very good value for 60GB 4G - using this in office without 5G modem router.
The unlimited 5G will be in Sabah region only (according to their FAQ). Not sure if this is truly in force now.
Thought of terminating my U Home 5G to use the telco H Sabah pass' 5G - big savings of RM50/month leh. But expecting it will not last long, don't want to go through the hassle of re-registering for UH 5G again if the Sabah pass offer is withdrawn in very near future(?).
Also these plans meant for use in phones only are blocked when used with popular modems out there.
The IMEI ban on popular branded modems which cannot be modified has a blanket wide on all telcos because it's registered into DNB core equipments which serves the entire nation 5G needs.
1) It depends on the 5G Modem in your phone. I've been using the MC888S for a few days now, so far on the same UM SIM card, I find that speedtest perform very similar when compared to the Zyxel NR5103E and Huawei CPE Pro. The MC888S does however have a much weaker Wifi penetration in my own experience.
2) Not all results are the same. Our connection to the DNB infrastructure is only half the journey, which is the "last mile connection". The rest of it depends on the Telco's own infrastructure. Speedtest shows only the result between the user to the selected server. Different Telcos ping different servers on speedtest, you can try to select a neutral server and test them both again. I am constantly getting 600-700Mbps on Yes 5G compared to 400-500Mbps on UM. However on Yes5G, it takes 30 seconds to load Foodpanda, Twitter pictures never ever load and there is no way to connect to many games on PS5. The only reason for keeping Yes5G is because they work very well on torrents and I use 2.5TB a month on that.
The MC888S is using inferior Unisoc IVY soc compared to other modems.
The ZTE MCS888s non SIM locked generic 5G modem is now going for RM692 on Lazada/Shopee.
But I suggest you buy the ZLT X28 instead which is much cheaper, uses the same UNISOC Makalu IVY510 chipset with features where you can do band lock and cell base station locking.
Performance Comparison Between Snapdragon X62 vs Mediatek T750 vs Huawei Balong 5000 Chipsets
Mediatek T750 turned out to be superior compared to the other 2 with lower latency, higher average download speeds and better price to performance ratio.
Snapdragon X62 which is even newer than the regular X55 in most 5G modems out there on sale.
Huawei Balong 5000 chipset based modem has upload issues with DNB Ericsson network. It can't even reach 10Mbps on all the tests.
