Having been working as a technical support engineer/ field support engineer for the past 7 and coming to 8 years, I am just curious to know is this role still in demand especially in the automotive sector?

Currently I have been with my current workplace for just over 5 months and I am starting to feel like this role I have as a service engineer is a little underwhelming and find that the things I am doing being a little mundane and to make matter a little worse, the HR here is so, so weak...

Moving forwards, what other career options do I have if I choose to stick in the technical field?
What about a non-technical role? What kind of options do I have?

I think after being in this kind of role for so many years, I believe I should be moving up the ladder but somehow, I am still at this level... In fact, I am considering other career options but just don't know with my kind of working experience where I can go

In general, IT engineering field, these are common career advancement paths from here :

- Management
- In-depth tech / Specialist -> QA-Dev Support -> Full time back-end Dev that owns several patents for new tech
- Project based engineer - > consultant - > Architect

Of course, other options like :
- Jump into other latest demanding tech : AI, security, cloud
- tech audit / compliance
- be a trainer

Many more, just look around in linkedin and social more with IT field players
Key point is : If you are stuck doing the same thing more than 3 years, you should move forward [try new role / learn new tech / obtain new certification]
Of course everyone gets to choose what to do on their life

Hey thanks @stinger for your pointers.

Actually for tech support kind of role, I noticed it's mostly in the IT but sadly, I am not from IT :|

I am actually considering going into training but I still don't know what my niche is (perhaps somewhere along the line of customer service/relations since that's where my experience lies, but I have an interest in sharing managing HIIT training with a full time job), I did get myself certified as a HRD trainer last year though.

Thought of moving into sales as well but not sure if I am actually cut out for that and what kind of service/solution I would be interested at.

The question I also have is, would it be too soon to move from this current job I have since I have only been here for about 5 months, coming to 6 in a week's time?

Oracle?
General IT?
