Hi,

Just wondering is using a slip-on exhaust on a motorcycle legal or illegal? Till this day I've tried to search some info but all I see is that if you modified until it disturbs peace etc it's illegal. I can't find anything about slip ons.

Happened to me a few years ago, I got fined for having a slip on exhaust, it wasn't loud at all (sounded like stock). I'm riding an R25 with an akrapovic slip on exhaust. I'm not well versed with the motorcycle law, so I didn't argue much with the police, he even threatened me to go court if I disagree with him 😔. Even after few years I'm still curious . Is it illegal or no? My brain can't stop thinking about it xD. So many people modified their exhaust and I don't see them having an issue with it, while mine was just a slip-on which 100% wasn't loud at all, it was for aesthetic purposes only. Thanks. Hope someone can clear this confusion for me.

as others have said... illegal.

simply put ONLY factory fitted exhausts is legal. keyword FACTORY...not the shop u bought the bike from... even if they are official distributor... they arent the factory.

also, the whole decibel level thing doesnt apply to bikes... bikes = not factory fitted = illegal. it can be an aftermarket exhaust that is quieter than the factory exhaust... itll still be technically illegal

EDIT: fooh, finally found the link

I think if you go for slip on exhaust and went for Puspakom checks, you may get an approval if not mistaken? Key word is that once you change your exhaust you need to make sure it meets original specs (I think in terms of sound) and to do that is to go through Puspakom.

Again I stand corrected on this so if anyone knows better, please share your experience.

It's illegal, but the authorities didn't block the import & sale of aftermarket exhaust.

That's how the authority making money...
