Back in 2011/2012, my father sign up for a Iphone 4 with the Maxis 24m normal contract. Later, Maxis gave him a refurbished unit when the original one got problem. Do maxis provide any document such as receipt to prove that my father own the phone?

The reason I need the receipt is because the phone Icloud is locked (keep asking for password) and we don't remember the pw. We could only bring it to apple store and hope that the proof of identity with receipt will make them factory reset the phone for us.

even if you got the phone unlocked, what is the point of using iPhone 4 in 2023?

If the iPhone has passcode, it can be reset by trying to unlock it with a wrong passcode.

The process will take a few hours though, as a cooldown period will be enforced between failed attempts.

But if I am not wrong, it will become unusable as it will get activation locked.

Just trying to fix it, keep it as a spare phone, it is quite a beautiful phone actually.

I have done this in the past and the phone was running without issue.
I did not get my phone from telco though.

OS dependent, icloud was introduced between the lifetime of iphone 4, there was some iOS on iphone 4 that didnt have icloud activation

iOS7 can be jailbroken. Just do the bypass. 99% of the apps on the app store won't work. Basically is only good for messages, phone and music.

factory reset iPhone? no way.

iphone 4 was a nice phone , owned an iphone 4 previously and last for almost 5 years then gave it to my niece , but she accidently drop in into a water

mine last till no original parts available, have to let it go 🙈
