Hi, I'm using MacBook Air 2020 (not M1/M2). I've an external monitor (XiaoMi) connected to my MacBook air. However, recently I realise my macbook air got heated up quite often + there would be some noise around (suspect it would be fan noice).

Im not a graphic designer/video editor. But I do trade stocks/cryptos/NFTs (Live Trading) sometimes using my laptop, and many tabs in browser opened sometimes. I suspect my MacBook Air couldn't support my activities anymore? (due to the heat and noise) and looking to get a new one.

Any macbook model would you advise for my working/usage needs? Just want it to be smooth and not noisy like the one now.

macbook air m2 but 512gb above storage

based on my requirement (live trading in stocks/crypto), wouldn't macbook PRO suit me more? Or air m2 would be sufficient?

u want stylish, want raise ego, use Macbook.
u want solid performance, anything but macbook.

Macbook Design is seriously flawed for "nonsense" reason.
from technical perspective.

They care more about asthetic value.
Cooling is joke ( because power and noise )
Perf is even a bigger joke. ( same price always slower )
To many limitation but advertise as "simplicity and convinience"
for certain reason 1 should use Macs.
for other, mainly social value.

if you are utilitarian, u would never consider macs.

I think I'd stick to Macbook. Not only stylish/ego, but i've been using apple products (stick to its ecosystem) and I like its simplicity.

Maybe you can try bring your Macbook Air for service/cleanup

If it still doesn't solve your problem, and since you're so keen on Apple product & ecosystem, then just upgrade your macbook to Pro M1 or M2.

You already have an answer yourself, just need someone to push.

yeah, will go for macbook. just thinking which model would suit me more.

In terms of heat, the old Intel Mac is really hot. I am using both macmini 2018 (Intel) and  macmini 2020 (M1) for my work. macmini M1 rarely heats up. I don't recall sounds of fan running on M1.

I would say go for MacBook Air M2 or MacBook Pro.

MacBook Air M2 or Macbook Pro M2 PRO would u recommend?

MacBook Air M2 is FANLESS
however, I think with your multi-tab behaviour,
it would easily heat up and eventually make your macbook lag due to heat.

So get a proper Macbook Pro M1/M2 whichever suit your budget.

Thanks. I think there's Macbook Pro M2 or M2 PRO for sale now.

My charger is plugging to my macbook air all the time (with the switch ON most of the time), dont know if that's an issue.

air doesnt have fans, pro does

i actually don't quite get this. Is having fan a PLUS point or no?

Coz if air doesnt have fan, it doesn't have noice too, vice versa. But fans help to cool the temperature.

Since you already using MacBook Air, is it enough for your tasks ? Do you feel sluggish ?

Check CPU load and memory using Activity Monitor.app under /Applications/Utilities. See if is max out or close to max out.

The latest MacBook Air should be way faster and powerful than before.

Check out comparison to decide.

As for monitor, most monitors should work with Macs for a long time now via HDMI or Thunderbolt (USB) interface.

I'm using multi-tab in my browser and some are youtube videos, live trading, twitter, discord etc.

Sometimes its sluggish (once in a while), but after i bought an external monitor n plugged-in, it gets heated up more often and with fans noise.

Having external monitor is like make the macbook work "twice". So that's where your issue is.
Why not, you try to visit any apple reseller, try out the macbook Air on the spot, open few tabs, run youtube, play music, etc.
or maybe triple from your usual and see if there's any bottleneck by viewing the Activity Monitor.app
*
yes i tried out, but its hard to test it because sometimes sluggish/heat only comes after some time (instead of instantly). But accordingly to ur suggestion, seems like Macbook Pro with M2 PRO chips would suit my usage more.
