From one Indian guy to another, I'm going to assume that you, just like me are among the few Indians doing better than the average Indian. I have no absolute idea what your background is, or the journey that you may have gone through in life. I see sometimes that you open threads like this to get yourself eaten alive.
I grew up throughout my childhood among non-Indians. In fact, I had near zero Indian friends and part of that reason is because I could never in a million years fit in with the Indians. There was the cultural element, and there was the language barrier, as I've pointed out before, I'm not a Tamil. In other words, Indians didn't want anything to do with me and I was often labeled as a self-hating Indian. Funny, ain't it?
In some sense, I think it was a blessing because I grew up with mainly Chinese friends and I learned a lot from them as I adopted many of their values (which isn't a bad thing). I got to understand why the Chinese are the way they are. There's good and bad in people, but its our own responsibility replicate good habits from others and adopt those habits. That's how we self-improve.
Now, this is not to say I've never experienced racism. Of course I have. I've been turned down for a job because of my race. I've been told in school that I'll never amount to anything because of my race. I was told that I'll be an alcoholic. I've been called the "K" word before. I was called "curry" before. Many other stupid shit as well. Yet, I've learned to live with these circumstances and rise above. I learned that networking is worth more than randomly applying for jobs and I got my jobs due to Malays and Chinese. I aced my exams despite not being "intelligent". I'm leading a pretty good life in terms of quality of life as well as income. I am not who loves to drink alcohol, hell, I don't even smoke.
To say as a community, that others shouldn't be racist because its hurtful, is idealistic at best. It doesn't work. You can't stop people from being bad or mean, sadly as there will always be a-holes. All you can do is rise above it. Don't let these things get to you and work on yourself so that others can either be inspired by you. Its only through action you can prove to people, not through words (ironic that I posted this right?).
Lastly, when you are a super minority community, one bad apple making a mistake will always be amplified by society because its easy as nobody will stick up for those who are struggling with life in general. The best we can do is to guide them not to make mistakes and show that we can break that stereotype. Opening threads like this will only amplify the plight that Indians find themselves in. It won't help make the situation better.
Learn to triumph through adversities. Racism is just another adversity that can be beaten. Its not impossible. By letting racism get to you, you will end up losing the battle and that's what racist people want. Trust me, I've seen it and experienced it. It might be hard mentally, but trust me, it can be done.
