As long as not logged out/cleared data/uninstall, you can change the number on the same WhatsApp account should digi confirmed to you that the old number is impossible to reinstated

Should I wait for their reply or proceed with the 'How to change your phone number' video?

Only when digi tells you it's too late then you try to recover WhatsApp account
