Looking for recommendation on smart switch. Understand there are few type of smart switches, eg:
1. wifi switch with neutral
2. wifi switch without neutral (but need to install capacitor)
3. zigbee switch (which needs hub)

Option 1 (wifi switch with neutral ):
- if we have neutral wire ready, then this would be the option to go for. If the existing switch don't have neutral wire, then it will be troublesome.
- what will happen if we didnot connect neutral wire in this case, will it causing any issue, unable to work ? any experience ppl can advise on this ?

Option 2: (wifi switch without neutral, need extra capacitor to install):
- for non-neutral type of smart switch, it will require capacitor to install in one of the light to avoid "flipping". this will be very disturbing especially this is being install in bedroom, the light will flip and disturb sleep.
- what will happen if we didnot install the "capacitor" or the "capacitor" is harder to install (eg: external lighting in garden/car porch)

Option 3: zigbee switch

- this will need zigbee hub in order to control the switch,
- Does this still require neutral wire? From the product manual, it looks like this is not need neutral wire as well as capacitor
- in term of wiring, this option would be the simplest.
- But how about the range? How far can we access the zigbee switch from the hub ? This might be another issue.

Please kindly share your experience and suggest the best method for wifi switches, thank you !

Maybe you should post it here

There are tons of info and sharing in that thread. Sorry I can provide feedback to the above, since I only use basic tuya wifi adapters and use the app to control. Didnt invest on hub.

ya, thanks, those link are very useful info thumbsup.gif , i re-open here and consolidate into 3 option above, as the info from the existing thread is scatter around biggrin.gif
How is your feedback on tuya wifi adapter ? Do you use with neutral or capacitor ?
Heard after some time (~ 2 years), the smart wifi will need to replace as broken.

thumbsup.gif Good one, i did used the tuya wifi power socket, quite useful. I think i used 5, and 1 of them broken after ~1-2 years. But with the price, consider ok lar.
Now would like to try the wifi/zigbee switch, which can remotely turn on/off the light, as well as can set the schedule when to ON/OFF. This would be very useful especially when going out for travel and no body at home.

Yeah for of my lights, I did some automation, one is as you mentioned is the scheduler for lights at various location in the house, it turns on/off at a specific time.

And the other was like, when sunset/rise some lights on/off instead of using light sensor.

And then I also have auto ON for fans, when my TV are. I also have couple of PC cooler fan configured to switch when certain voltage is reached.

Ya, this is good one. i am trying to do the same as well, but applying to existing lighting (eg: LED downlight), this lighting are attached to existing switch, which unable to use socket/adaptor. Thinking to change them to wifi smart switch, but after some research, there are basically 3 type, hence trying to ask opinions and advise here from all the sifu biggrin.gif

Yup, 16K+ is too fancy, we can research together on which type of wifi switch and partially automate house biggrin.gif
Btw, i found one wifi switch that mentioned not need neutral wire and capacitor, but does anyone really try ?

Does it working fine without connect to neutral line, as well as no capacitor installed, does it "flipping" ?

There is another option, for my case, the switch is ordinary switch so my default wiring don't have neutral access. What I did is put these switch right before my downlight wiring instead of changing the wall switch. But downside is my ordinary switch have to left it open all the time for these smart switch to be functional. Anyway, I am satisfied with it. Just need the hassel to diy and put the switch on instead of just changing the wall switch. If it don't broken down frequently then shouldn't be a problem.
