Well guys, i'm new to the world of photography world here. I do know that there are lots of pro here, that is also the reason why i'd like to get some comments from you guys by posting up some of my photos. Most of the photos here have been edited with Adobe Photoshop CS2. I have no idea whether posting up the original photos would be better? Comments and critics are really welcomed here, but dun be too cruel le. Heh. notworthy.gif

My first batches of photos will be those i've taken during my trip to Penang a few days ago. Will constantly update this gallery once i go on shooting.

My gear? I'm only using a prosumer level Canon Powershot Pro S5IS. Was thinking of switching to a DSLR once i've get to know what photography really is. Thanks for viewing my gallery and hope you guys do enjoy them. nod.gif

fren, you were at gurney drive. you can just place your camera at the small wall at the side walk, then tilt it up a bit with your wallet. smile.gif

then timer it to shoot. biggrin.gif then your photos won't be blur for those night shots.

now i miss my pulau tikus CKT.

kwws> i used yellow tint to bring out the dramatic feel. Hehe. And the curry mee's a must try if you're coming to penang. X]

Andy> oh, very easy. Just highlight the part you wanna make it b&w and 'unsaturate' it. I increased the saturation of the colours as well to make it look more pleasing. Yup, i will still be focusing on photography skill, can't do much on PS if the composition of the photo is out. hehe.

goldfries> Thanks for the brilliant idea! I've seriously never thought of it before. Haha. Yup, i'm going to try it once again when i go to gurney. Never been to Pulau Tikus, but seriously, the fried oysters and curry mee is a must try! =]

aceejay> Thanks! Alright, at the sametime i'm learning how to handle the cam properly. Seriously thought of advancing onto a DSLR soon. X]

For the time being, a picture on the making of the " Batu Feringgi beach jump" Hehe.

csrulez, np.

anyway to protect your S5IS - you could use a bean bag / small pillow too.

you know la, gurney drive those sturdy areas for you to place the cam are rocks and if it drops - sad case lor. smile.gif get a bean bag, it should give more friction and yet being stable.

Just note the slope, being a bean bag it might slip as well should the center of gravity go way off.

Does your S5 have a strap? what I usually do is to hold the strap or have it around my neck even when the camera is left on it's own to do timered shot. smile.gif

This picture was captured when we were walking back to the hotel from Gurney Plaza. It was the view of the sea during low tides at Gurney Drive.

This picture is taken early in the morning at the 28th floor of Northam Suites near Persiaran Gurney, Penang. Amazing bird's eye view of the straits of Penang.

This boat was trapped in the mud during low tides, and the fisherman gave up after several tries of pushing it back into the sea. Looking like a piece of perfect artwork, i snapped it down.

All pictures here are taken with canon S5is, cropped, resized, and edited. =)

For the first picture, too much PP (got purple colour cast and lack contrast), the horizon is slanted and should follow rules-of-thirds.

Second picture got purple colour cast and I think it will be better if follow rules-of-thirds.

Third picture, nice composition. But CA is very obvious.

Thanks for the comments compmac.

For the 1st pic, i wanted to show the texture of the skies. So i made the sky my main subject in the pics.

Btw, may i know what is CA? Still a photography noob here . Hehe.

if there's horizon, try to make it level. smile.gif slightly slanting horizon is noticeable.

If you want to make the sky your main subject, get it to be 2/3 of the picture. Don't do too much PP as it will do more damage than good. Saturate the blue channel a bit and increase the contrast. If you really want blue skies, use a CPL (Circular Polarizer). Do make sure the horizon is straight.

Also remember to calibrate your monitor for correct colours and contrast before doing any PP.

CA is Chromatic Abberation, aka Purple Fringing. There is nothing much can be done as this is due to the lens construction and quality.

Keep on shooting!

No comments on the pictures but I would like to know where you people bought the poker set (cloth and chips)?

Wanted to look for them to play Texas Hold'em for CNY.
