Some of you may remember in the late 90's there was a very hyped up development in Kulim. Luxury homes were promised with gated community etc. Here are a few links :

So from what I can understand the original developer was liquidated before completion of the properties sold. I was one of the buyer who made a down payment of 10K for a piece of land there. So when the company went under I lost 10K and I thought that's the end of the story, lesson learnt.

I just got a phonecall today from another company called Vintage (mentioned in the article above) saying that I owe them 36K in quit rent for the past 26 years! So I owe quit rent for a property that does not exist and that I have never used. When I queried the authenticity of their claim, they said that they are just following court orders. They also asked if I have received any statement for the quit rent and I have never gotten anything in the past 26 years.

I asked the man who called why it took them 26 years to inform me of this court ruling. He could not answer and said that he will now send me the court order and the quit rent payments made on my behalf by their company!

Has anyone ever encountered such an issue?

It depends on the agreements in hand. Did you buy any landed property and was the property transferred into your name? If so then you own a parcel of land and have to pay the quit rent thereon. Did you sign any agreement which said you have to pay quit rent from the date of the SPA or date of delivery of vacant possession? Wait for the documents and an official letter from them. Such letter could officially bind them to your interest in the property.
