RX330, your Die Hard disc, does it includes the digital copy redistributable to PMPs with PlayForSure DRM or not? The DVD version includes this, so the Blu-ray should have those as well. What this is, is that the title includes a digital copy ready to be sync via Windows MEdia Player to your chosen PMPs, but it must be able to transfer only through this way. If this works via iTunes, im all over it for my iPhone.

Umm yeah i didnt think about that. Since PS3 is not PlayForSure compatible, you cant transfer the digital copy off, you'd need a BD drive on a PC.

Here's the link talking about the digital copy, but it's talking about the DVD version, not the Blu-ray:-

http://www.hometheatermag.com/news/101907digitalcopy/

But like you said, need a BD-ROM drive, if it available on your Blu-ray copy.

The Transformers exclusivity is reported to be 18 months only, after that has expired, Paramount may decide to rerelease for Blu-Ray. Works on both sides, Paramount and Blu-Ray, since Paramount can wiggle out of the contract period, and BD-Java Profile 1.1 should be completed by then.

Then again, not many are willing to wait, so lots of dual-format supporters are already wielding the HD-DVD in their collection, myself included. tongue.gif

Greetz from Big Apple. Day starts with subzero temp, thankfully no wind storm, otherwise the wind chill factor would drive that even colder. The day ends of course, with a show on Broadway, and soaking up the atmosphere of Times Square. The real Times Square, not that big hulking crap in Bukit Bintang. Today's Hairspray on Fifth Avenue itself, tomorrow would be either be the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Mamma Mia! or Les Miserable.

Blurays? Hell anything Hidef-related? Check!

Bluray camp scores Blade Runner Ultimate Edition, Die Hard Collection, Close Encounter or the Third Kind Collector Edition, The Simpsons Movie, Underworld, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Superbad.

Blade Runner UE comes in a briefcase, ala Rick Deckard's. Comes with the "confidential" files, movie motion clip in the form of a crystal slab with the clip INSIDE it, Ridley Scott's personal introduction on a "see-through" letter, Spinner vehicle replica, a miniature Unicorn and the 5 Blu-rays. Die Hard Collection comes with all 4 Die Hard movies in HD, Close Encounters arrives with timeline chart, artbook and the 2 discs containing theatrical, director's cut and the special features. The Simpson's Movie is made available for the first time today here, and the Springfield family is commemorated with their appearance on the huge Flatiron screen on the NY Times building in Times Square. They were caught skating and causing mischief at the Rockefeller Plaza iceskating rink. There were also a crowd wearing Simpsons attires in Times Square for recording on the Morning day specials for the launch. They're all looked yellow in subzero NY!

HD-DVDs comes with Ocean's Trilogy, Shrek 3, Knocked Up, and Blade Runner's Collector Edition. Blade Runner CE comes with the same 5-Discs as per the Blade Runner UE sans the extras.

Tomorrow? More Blu-ray version of the Harry Year 1-5 Potter Giftset (too cheap an offer to pass.....USD7X.XX!?,.....hell, all those bought, be it games, accessories or HD titles, had their prices slashed to minimum 33% discount, thanks Christmas sale!), hanging out at Nintendo World store at 10 Rock, skating at Rockefeller, late afternoon Radio City theatrical show, lunch after scouring Fifth Avenue's "glassy and classy" Apple Store, teman the girls to Bloomingdales and Macy's, late evening screening of Sweeney Todd, and picking up preorders from Gamestop/EBGames. Ace Combat + Flight Stick, GT5 Prologue, and Nights: Journey into Dreams......Rockband? And that Samsung hybrid Blu-ray/HD-DVD player BD-UP5000.

BTW, saw Mr.Trump getting into his limo outside Trump tower while i was walking to Apple 5th Avenue, and my late night show hero, Conan O'Brien at the CBS Tower.New Yorkers are so much in a hurry, even cars, buses , even 18-wheelers have to cater to them when they are crossing the road...even when the sign says Do Not Cross!

The temp ticker looks nice outside though...says 34...not Celcius, but in Fahrenheit! BRRRRRRRR!

GT5P JPN version, in disc form. Gamestop are stocking them tomorrow. Im hoping that im high enough in that standby list i wrote down at their store today is enough to bag me one.

Otherwise, they are also getting the actual PSN cards with preset credits on them, which at the moment can only be used for the Japanese PSN. This is due to the overwhelming request from those who preordered wanting to be sure to get their GT5P. If they cant get the game in disc form, they can still buy them off JPN PSN with the card.

Sure i can loan Ratatouille. Have to wait me back after Christmas though. Need a collateral item as a safeguard, another BD title is fine, preferably a hit title.

Gimme Spidey 3 as collateral, im fine with that. Touch wood, we're all good people here, and i dont expect anyone bailing on others here, but should that happened, a missing title in a Trilogy would make me go crazy. tongue.gif

Yeah, KLCC will be fine. Mediaplex to be specific. We're gonna go crazy there with the stuff im bringing back for them. tongue.gif

*On a separate note, im contemplating about whether i should risk slipping an ....er....ermm......"seafood" BD within the cache im bringing back home. On one hand, can just wink wink with them customs and they wave us through, but on the other hand, if the guy's kinda lurus.....suffice to say it's gonna be awkward.* tongue.gif

Onkyo TX-SR605 AV Receiver.

The recent revelation that is the FOX Blu-rays brought me into bringing my plan of adopting a proper HT setup forward. Had auditioned Mr.& Mrs Smith as well as the Die Hard Collection Blu-rays and the DTS HD-MA coming out of these titles, especially the gunfights in Mr.& Mrs Smith is mindblowing to say the least!

Decided not to pick any of the current standalone BD players on the market, since all of them have shortcomings of their own. The Samsung BD-P1400 has High BitRate (HBR) passthrough of Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD-MA to supported receivers, but it only has BD Profile 1.0 (meaning those sweet Java games on Pirates titles wont even play). Panasonic DMP-BD30K has BD Profile 1.1 but you cant source them locally, and no guarantee if you can update it to support BD Profile 2.0 (BD-Live, and advanced web-enabled contents, which requires 1 Gb persistent memory onboard). The LG BH200 does go up to BD Profile 2.0, but good luck finding one. In the end, the best Blu-ray player is still the cheapest in the market, the PS3. However, PS3 cannot pass HBR audio via bitstreaming, only by Linear PCM. This may not have any effect on Dolby TrueHD, but for DTS HD-MA, this will pose a problem. Until the BDA consortium sorts this out, im staying away from getting a standalone player.

Nonetheless, UT3 and COD4 on PS3 on the SR605? Let's just say, my neighbours hates me even more at night! laugh.gif

Maybe KL, I thought I saw him at Harvey over in Pavilion yesterday.

Was that you stringfellow?
I was very tempted too. It was priced around RM24xx till end of 2007.
*
How is it that you know how i looked when i never even met you? Curious. Or have we crossed path before? hmm.gif

Sorry for being paranoid, but these days, i had to becareful. Too many past occurences that may have spawned unwanted trolls. Not that im calling you one, im sure the question was purely inquisitive.

The Harvey guys have known me since my days peppering them with questions and allowing them to audition their speakers for me. Onkyo, Polk, Cambridge Audio, Yamaha, or those crappy Jamos. Mind you, i had been wrestling with which HT setup i should go for, for months on end, it had just come to realityjust quite recently. Getting them Onkyo speakers from them too. hint there.

But no. SR605. Amazon. USD399. Backdoor.

SKS-HT240? The Harvey boys.

As for whether it was me you thought you saw on that day, it shall remain a mystery until i have a clear idea about how you being familiar with how i looked like, to come up with that conclusion.

I think i spoke too much about myself already. Carry on.

Mr. Stringfellow,

Had u considered Yamaha rxv1800/3800 before settling on sr605? By the way, what speakers are u pairing it with?
*
Either SKS-HT235 or SKS-HT240. Im pressed for space, so these will do for the moment. My home in LA doesnt, so that will mean i have the option of going all out. Im waiting for Denon to come up with their lineup and pairing it with several Kefs.

Hehe, i got the older brother to that mean black hot a/v receiver...Onkyo TX-SR705 !!..works like a charm and sound superb. Went for 705 for its THX capability instead of 605 and more wattage per channel. DTS-HD wohohohoho !!! Still waiting PS3 to enable bitstream 5.1. Now 5.1 LPCM with no problem.

Wish i could get myself a Denon...but that would cost a bomb !!
*
Yeah, i was thinking between the 605 and all its higher end brothers, including the 875, but for a room size i had, the rest would be overkill.

QUOTE(pAnGuInDa @ Dec 31 2007, 04:14 PM)
Just read some article about Natural Journey available for both format, just wonder anyone in this forum got this tittle? How is it?
I read about the film is encode with same video encode which is VC-1, but differently bit rates, which of course Blu-ray got better bit rates.
Well, the reviewer said using his 50 inch Samsung DLP screen, there are no identical difference on both format on normal viewing distance, but with bigger screen there is a different; I guess that why some people prefer HD DVD since not much people has big screen or over 100 inch display sweat.gif
But still it prove that more bit rates delivers better picture quality, an argument which always said Blu-ray is nothing different compare to HD DVD in term of picture quality. smile.gif

There also some interesting interview on it smile.gif

Source

Rx bro, you said you finish the Resident Evil Extinction, care to said something about the PiP that available on the movie? Pretty excited about the first the true PiP on Blu-ray disc. rolleyes.gif

Bro Stringfellow, your Onkyo TX-SR605 AV Receiver make me drool.gif

How I wish I could get one now, no money sad.gif
*
I had Nature's Journey for months already, just was not in this forum to talk about it.

The Yamaha 1800 is of course superb, just that it is overkill for a room size i have here. Auditioned it before, and some may not agree, but the Yammys sound a little harsher compared to the rest. Personal preference i guess.

Cant wait to wire things up. The PS3 will not make the DTS-HD MA or the even the Dolby TrueHD light up on the receiver, but my Onkyo DV-HD805 will. Put in Pan's Labyrinth, and voila! rclxms.gif

Get ANY of the Tier 0 titles, those are reference material. The guys at AV Science forum cant be wrong.

TIER 0 Blu-ray titles

Completely flawless picture. No artifacts whatsoever, no matter how small. Demo Material - These show just what Blu-Ray is all about and everyone should own one to show any guests in their home. Show someone one of these films and they'll want to join the Blu side!

Ratatouille
Video: MPEG-4 | Audio: PCM | AR: 2.40:1 | Disney

Cars
Video: MPEG-4 | Audio: PCM | AR: 2.40:1 | Disney

Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End
Video: MPEG-4 | Audio: PCM | AR: 2.35:1 | Buena Vista

Mr. Brooks
Video: MPEG-4 | Audio: DTS-HD MA

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Corpse Bride
Video: VC-1 | Audio: DD | AR: 1.85:1 | Warner

Meet the Robinsons

I cannot comment on your personal preferences though. As you go lower on the tiers, picture quality (PQ) degrades. Me? I only buy titles that would make a difference in both PQ and AQ, unless that title has nostalgic value to me.

In which in my case, i was beaten by Arj. Touche! tongue.gif

For the HD-DVD section, the same Tier thread exists as well. AVSForum is , among other places, my reference when it comes to word-on-the-street when it comes to things related to HD-DVDs and Blu-rays, or anything HD.

The fact is, for the price and feature set, the SR605 does what it is designed to do, and admirably. It doesnt get garner awards just for show. A lot of the folks here arent equipped to spend RM4k+ on their first receivers, and the SR605 works both on their budget and their audio needs.

However, i agree too that the Onkyo SR705 and SR805 have a glitch that some consider a dealbreaker: Lip Sync. Dialogues get out of sync, and the only way to remedy this is either via HDMI 1.3a Lip Syncing feature( which needs both receiver and display unit supporting HDMI 1.3a), introducing delays to get the sync back together, or hoping for a firmware update to rectify this. Funnily so, there are cases of those who went down from 705 to 605 and perfectly happy with it. The SR605 and SR875 is not affected by this.

So there you go. I tell it as it is, no frou-frouing or brand worshipping. For the money i had at the time, the Onkyo SR605 was a definite shortlisted choice. I would have considered the Yammy VX1800, if it wasnt so harsh sounding in the first place. Personal choice. Like all audio equipment, you need to audition them yourself to see if it fits your bill. smile.gif

I edited my post too, to keep things civil in here. Im glad we agree to disagree amicably here, Aiman. smile.gif

Bottom line is, pick the receiver that is best to your ears, coz in the end, it is your ears that will thank you for it. icon_rolleyes.gif

RX330, Jamos are a little on the softer side to me. Nice musically too, but it didnt grabbed my attention when i auditioned movies on it.

Yup, the PS3 internally decodes them and send it out as PCM. But make sure you pass that PCM out via HDMI, optical doesnt hold enough bandwidth to pass HBR formats, including lossless PCMs.

Panasonic DMP-BD30K, where are youuuuuu? cry.gif

string, the problem im facing is this
those things i want to buy or plan to buy, there isnt any place for me to audition in jaybee.... i can only order from them, tats it

i need satellite speakers to go with it, any recommendations, not too ex ones
*
Then online references are your only means here. Pretty risky banking on only this to determine your purchase, and this is quite a hefty purchase/investment! I would suggest in any case to try and see if you can get the things you want auditioned if possible.

You're located in JB, right? Why not pop into Singapore and audition stuff there? JB may not have the units, but i can bet Singapore has them.

As for satellite speaker recommendations, there are many. Im inclined to suggest my Onkyo, but those arent really satellites , from their size, more like intermediates between satellites and bookshelves. Again, my advise is to listen to a few, list out the ones you like aurally, and go from there. What about budget? Is that a concern? I personally like Kef and Wharfedale.

Please dont go Bose. Overpriced, lifestyle crap.
