IF you thinking of going PRO later stage pls think again before u give out any free comecial photography work even if u are a newbie ... by giving out free work u are indirectly spoiling the market and there fore there will be no more future for u to turn PRO so think again!!!

say no to free work ... at least get a decent pocket money to cover your lunch and patrol....

Are you referring to a thread here?
Which the TS was looking for newbie to help shoot for free.

Btw, not only food & petrol, but also the wear & tear of your equipment.

i can get some models... charged them RM xxx.

post it in forum, organize an event, tell photogs TFCD,

how about that ? sound typical in any of the photo forum ? yes

now did i get my fact right ?

put it this way, noob will shoot for free, they just want experience and opportunity.

some even PAY the model to shoot the model. Now where did your fact come in to play in this situation ?

there are tons of backup event photographer outside who will shoot for free. The Pro just manage them and tell them what to shoot. Like it or not, this seems to be a typical route for noob.

However, the pro has never been challenged by these free noob situation, as they have skilled which the noob doesn't.

do you feel challenged ?

PEACE ! smile.gif

p/s: just explaining what's happening in the real world

Totally agree, its just for newbies to advertise that they are trying to gain as much exposure and experience. But I was told by a pro photographer that even as a newbie, should never charge for free. At least to cover certain expenses.

During the film days, there're no such thing as free.
Film kena duit, processing needs money. Even the damn batteries cost a lot (that time no rechargeable Li-ion & NiMH).

If you ask to shoot for free, nobody will entertain you.
At least pay for the film & processing mah. tongue.gif

I did it once too. Cos the client has a 5 digit transaction with my company annually.

After the shoot, the food enter our stomach of course. That meal if follow menu price is RM350.

We need to know the rules if we want to bend the rules. For a newbie who doesn't know the industry, and simply shoot for free without giving it much thought, he may be unknowingly destroying the industry that he/she hopes to be in the future. But those who know exactly what they are doing, it is perfectly OK to give free shootings as it is a way of promoting / customer relationship management that will certainly rip in more profit in the long run (aka good karma) that R a D ! c 4 L mentioned. thumbup.gif

Of course, if the photographer just wanna practice shooting on his/her friends for fun without charging them, its perfectly fine because he knows pretty well that his/her friends will definitely never pay to have his photos taken by a outsider professional photographer. But if the newbie starts to publicly announce that he is shooting for free to anyone who is interested, then the danger of ruining the industry will come.

Well, I'm certainly not a pro photographer or anywhere near it. But I am in an industry which will share similar fate if newcomers starts giving free/ charging too low. So before anyone of us wants to shoot photos for free, pls do think twice and think deeply about the consequences before doing it. ~peace~ biggrin.gif
