Hi, I got an offer for a IT helpdesk role in an erp company, and it's the first time I'm actually told the cert that I have (aws cloud practitioner) actually had value and can help in increasing my pay. I was also told that I can transition into developer role if I wanted to.

So apparently the IT helpdesk role wasn't looked upon in a positive light in some of the western countries (mainly because of some IT illiterate people can get very nasty to deal/communicate with), wondering if anyone had been in such a role before

I don't have an IT degree, but have an interest towards the IT industry (both software and hardware). Saw from some opinion that IT helpdesk can help in kick-starting a career in IT.

Would love to hear from y'all who had been in the role in the past. Thanks!

IT helpdesk more on customer service while Cloud Engineer are more on project base.

Do you prefer office hour work or you dont mind spending time after office hour for project development and deployment?

I like the idea of knowing how to shortcut my way and automate things (for example how to customize yt dlp scripts and some stuff) as I use them in part of my daily lives

The helpdesk role is so far the only options I have on the table, everything else needs at least years of exp or a cs degree for even a entry level roles.

I've seen some stayed a year or two in IT helpdesk and then transitioned into sysadmin kind of role. Does that work in Malaysia too?

Oh, if possible I'd like to side more towards work life balance than the more-money side, although I don't mind sending extra hours sometimes in case of urgency

Just wanna know if it's a good role to take/start gaining experience
