Which do you prefer and why? Tbh ayam never seen ketupat before other than decorative items. Does it taste and texture the same as nasi impit?

Ketupat and nasi impit are basically the same, people from different states may use the terminology differently sometimes

Unless, you refer to the ketupat palas ie the triangle pulut version

Lemang of cuz, just back from friends open house, mkn at least 2 plates of lemang. The beef that bit dry called what eh? It goes very good with lemang.

Maybe I give chance a bit to ketupat palas because it's a bit like Chinese bak Zhang, but the good things Malay don't promote, as usual......

Different. Nasi impit is compacted rice in container. Ketupat is cooked rice in certain leaves casing such as coconut or palas leaves.

ayam like nasi impit coz it is consistent and taste a bit sweet coz the rice is crushed. ketupat never tried but it is burnt like lemang or rebus?

Might as well eat normal rice.

To me ketupat and lemang taste the same. Both pulut with coconut milk.

Ketupat Triangle shape or Ketupat Palas = Sticky rice
Lemang = Sticky Rice
Nasi Impit = Rice

I like ketupat palas more than ketupat.

So far I noticed that lemang uses sticky rice while ketupat and nasi himpit uses regular rice. Also lemang has coconut milk inside like nasi lemak. Ketupat and nasi himpit doesn't.

But recipe and styles may vary. But from so many I have eaten, the difference is lemang is way more closer to rice desert kuih that you could match with sweet and salty companion dish. It's difficult to pair ketupat or nasi himpit with sweet things like kaya or gula melaka.

The way they are prepared are diff.

Last time people cook lemang solely with coal/fire. So most of lemang sometimes got that burnt taste or hardened. Only the perfect lemang taste the best. But people boil? Or steam ketupat. So most of ketupat is soft and nice to eat.

But this lately people also cook the same way for lemang then just reheat with fire only.

I do not think ketupat has coconut milk inside. How to keep the milk retained inside the woven leaves? If they used sticky rice, yes you get the same texture as lemang which uses sticky rice. But no way the coconut milk can be inside ketupat once it is boiled in water.

Actually they are 2 types of ketupat. Squarish and triangle. The triangle use sticky rice and got coconut milk. The squarish is normal rice.

I can only think that very likely the rice is soaked in coconut milk for some time before inserted into woven leaves. It is very unlikely the ketupat is boiled in coconut milk either as the milk will thicken into gelatinous state before the rice could be cooked.

Unless the weave is well made I do not think coconut is poured in when the rice is inserted into the ketupat shell. But I have seen people adding salt inside while inserting rice in ketupat shell.

Yup. We soaked the sticky rice with the coconut milk. Then put it inside the triangle shape and boil/steam it.
