What is the typical idle temp for Intel i5-10400F given an ambient temp of 30C and stock cooler.

Mine as read from BIOS is 49C.

49C is a good enough temperature. Try mounting a better cooler if it bothers you.

mine old desktop i5 2300 about 42C, new i5 12400F about 38C
both branded pc stock cooler

sorry wrong read GPU as CPU, 12400F is about 44C

that's a bit high at idle for a i5 . why dun u remove the cooler, clean all the dust, reapply new thermal paste and reinstall back. make sure the cooler mounting is tight.

My 12700K idles at ~32 - 35 Celsius at room temperature

Watercool cannot compare lah bro. If ambient ady 30oC no way for stock cooler to be 3+oC.

OK fair enough, but 49 C is still too high for a 10400

Something ~38 - 40 C sounds more acceptable

TS is using a stock cooler so you'd have to take that into account when discussing temps.

Thanks everyone. I though it was a bit high too but seems like I shouldn't have read the temp from BIOS screen. After installing Win 11, I check Core Temp and it shows 40C idle. I guess should be good enough lah.
