To those with an itinerary to Japan, have JR Pass in mind.

A huge like 60++% fare hike come Oct.

So, plan early if you gonna involve cross nation using JR. Inter-region, not so bad.

Japan is known for its efficient and reliable train system, and the Shinkansen, also known as the bullet train, is a popular choice for travelers. The Shinkansen is a high-speed train that connects major cities in Japan and offers comfortable seating, onboard amenities, and a smooth ride. Other popular trains in Japan include the Tokyo Metro, the Yamanote Line, and the Odakyu Romancecar. It is important to research the train routes and schedules to determine which train is best suited for your travel needs.

this isnt about not profitablility as these lines are very popular. basically they want to prevent people flocking to the usual congested main hubs (Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo) as it was the defacto for most JR passes peeps. plus they now include in the other higher speed trains onto the list instead of the old Kodama line (Nozomi, Mizuho) which costs way more in avg fares

now jepung want promote tourism in the lesser gone areas like Tohoku, Kyushu regions. they want to force people to pay more to utilise it more like going from Fukuoka - Tokyo. trying to put in the "worth it" mindset (20-24k yen p/trip)

Never worth unless you use it everyday. It’s wise to just fly to one location and sightseeing around there instead of keep moving and changing hotel just to make use of the pass.

Promoting new regions of visits via rail other than the usual Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo transits.

Take taxi instead.

I once had to take a taxi from Kabukicho to Tokyo Haneda Airport at 4 am in the morning. 45 minute journey that cost 27000 yen, almost MYR900.
