Landlords out there, I have a question. Normally if go through real estate agents to rent out an apartment, only need tenant ic copy to draft rental agreement. But this time the tenant engaged a lawyer and the lawyer asked for ic copy of the landlord. Actually, what’s the practice? Are ic copies of both landlord and tenants needed? Somemore need to sah kan benar. I think the lawyer is misusing whatever power he think he has. Should I engage a real estate agent to handle this instead?

Either party has a right to request copy of ic. Advise you to engage professional to protect your rights as well.

If you are worried, you should engage a lawyer instead of real estate agent. I think the lawyer just want your copy of IC for verification purposes. Can give them a copy but no need to sah-kan benar la. Just cross your IC and write for tenancy agreement for xxx property only.
